DEFINITION: Under general direction, coordinates overall operations of career center programs; advises students and parents on career/college and other post-secondary options; provides career planning resources and services.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Develops, updates and maintains resources in the career center through researching, identifying and purchasing written, audio, video and computer career/college materialsAdvises students and parents regarding career, vocational and college optionsResearches, catalogs and disseminates materials relating to careers, vocational schools, colleges, military opportunities, financial aid, scholarships, testing, etcAssists students in using the career centerProvides current Regional Occupational Program information and coursesServes as a resource person/assistant to teachers, counselors, administrators, community, parents and students in class activitiesDevelops, prepares and presents college and career units with faculty members for classesCommunicates the goals of the career centerSupervises student aides and volunteersMaintains student files and records, prepares bulletins and announcementsAssists students in completing forms, to include college applications and college essaysAdministers, scores and interprets vocational interest and aptitude testsCoordinates, administers/supervises and interprets specialized testing (PSAT, ASVAB, Advanced Placement, SAT I and SAT II, ACT, etc.)Distributes information and advises students regarding trade/technical schools, college financial aid applications, tests, and other college related informationTeaches students job-seeking skills, including resume writing and how to complete job applicationsOrganizes field trips and accompanies students attending off-campus events, such as career and college workshops/conferences, and college and vocational school toursServes as the primary liaison with colleges and universities, Regional Occupational Programs (ROP), military and vocational schoolsPrepares, designs and creates forms and informational materials to educate students on college admissions and/or the job search processEducates parents and students about the college admissions process, including academic preparation throughout the high school yearsConducts informational programs for student groupsMaintains career center budgetOrganizes, directs and produces year-end awards ceremoniesConducts career/college and financial aid workshops/presentations for parents and students at parent conferences, Back to School Night, Grade Level Meetings, Open House, etcAttends workshops and conferences to obtain the most current information to assist students and parents with post-high school planningWrites letters of recommendation for students to enhance their opportunities for college admissions and scholarshipsAssists students with sophisticated computer software for career, college and scholarship search, plus computerized college applications and Internet services Operates a computer and related softwareServes on community and professional committees that enhance the post high school options for students, such as East Bay College Fair Committee Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, Cash for College Committee, etc.Performs related duties as assignedDESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: A combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree from a college or university and course work in career/college planning or a related field.
