Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Certified Medical Coder & Healthcare Instructor delivers engaging, student-centered instruction that prepares student for successful careers in medical billing, coding, and healthcare administration. The instructor fosters a positive, inclusive learning environment, supports student success through mentorship and timely feedback, and contributes to ongoing program excellence.

The Certified Medical Coder & Healthcare Instructor demonstrates a strong passion for teaching and mentoring students pursuing healthcare careers. This individual models professional integrity, promotes critical thinking, and supports the development of practical, career-ready skills in medical coding and general health sciences.

Duties listed below represent examples of the types of work performed and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
- Teach courses in CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and related healthcare topics such as medical terminology, anatomy, and healthcare systems.
- Using course syllabus and course objectives, prepare and deliver engaging lessons using real-world examples and industry best practices.
- Evaluate student performance and provide constructive, timely feedback.
- Maintain accurate attendance and grade records in accordance with institutional policies.
- Support continuous curriculum improvements to reflect current industry standards and certification requirements.
- Participate in faculty development, team meetings, and student retention initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards applicable to healthcare education programs.
· Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through AAPC or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through AHIMA.
· Associate degree or higher in Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management, or a related field.
· Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in medical coding, billing, or a related healthcare administrative capacity.
· Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues and peers.
· Proficiency in healthcare software, electronic health records (EHR), and coding systems.
· Prior teaching or training experience in healthcare or medical coding (preferred but not required).
· Familiarity with adult learning theories, educational methodologies, and classroom management practices.
· Active engagement in professional organizations such as AAPC or AHIMA.
· Current knowledge of healthcare industry trends, regulatory changes, and coding updates.
· Work performed online in a cohesive space of your choosing that is conducive to learning.
· Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities or schedules.
· Frequent interaction with students, faculty, and staff in a collaborative academic environment.
