Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Tax Accountant/Bookkeeper to join our team in Albuquerque, NM. This role involves managing comprehensive accounting functions, preparing and analyzing financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, supporting various tax-related activities, preparing tax returns for individuals and businesses, providing strategic tax planning advice, and ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws, as well as maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring accurate reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, proficiency with accounting software, and a solid understanding of tax regulations and financial concepts. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where accuracy, analytical skills, and regulatory knowledge are essential for success.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file accurate federal, state, and local tax returns, including forms for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and nonprofits.
  • Gather and analyze financial records, such as income statements and expenditure documentation, to determine the necessary forms and identify potential deductions and credits.
  • Develop and implement strategic tax planning to minimize client tax liabilities while remaining in compliance with regulations.
  • Stay up-to-date with current tax law changes and industry trends through continuous professional development.
  • Review financial records to identify potential errors and ensure accuracy.
  • Serve as a resource for clients and internal teams on tax-related questions and issues.
  • Maintain and update the company's tax database with client information.
  • Prepare financial statements and monthly reports.
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets and forecasts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 or more years of experience in tax planning and preparation.
  • Proven ability to research complex tax issues and identify solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., CCH ProSystem fx, UltraTax CS, Lacerte Tax) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid IRS Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).
  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar financial role.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms; experience with financial software is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles including debits & credits, double entry bookkeeping, asset management, and account reconciliation.
  • Experience with tax experience related to estate planning, wills & trusts & estate law is a plus.
  • Familiarity with non-profit accounting practices is advantageous.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.

Preferred qualifications

  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or Enrolled Agent License.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $35.00 per hour
