CIGA is seeking a full-time Workers' Compensation Claims Supervisor to our CIGA family. We are seeking a candidate that possesses enthusiasm, professionalism, and strong customer service skills to represent our Association who is located in the state of California.

Please note that you will be required to come into the Glendale, California offices when needed. This position can be remote or hybrid.

The Supervisor position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of one or more teams. Responsible for reviewing and analyzing policy, create reports for executives, project management, ensuring team delivers projects and duties assigned, prioritize, and assign staff work and ensure quality and expedite work products are delivered. Plans, directs, manages and evaluates team performance. Makes decisions regarding personnel actions and activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accomplishes department objectives by supervising staff and organizing and monitoring work processes.
  • Reviews and approves daily and per pay period employee timesheets and by monitoring attendance and timekeeping taking all necessary steps to identify, address and remediate any irregularities.
  • Accomplishes staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees.
  • Plans, monitors, and appraises job results.
  • Implements and enforces systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Completes operations by developing schedules, assigning and monitoring work, gathering resources, implementing productivity standards, resolving operations problems, maintaining reference manuals, and implementing new procedures.
  • Provides quality service by enforcing quality and customer service standards.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to claims unit staff within the assigned unit to ensure compliance with workflows, policies, and procedures as outlined in CIGA's Claims Administration Guidelines.
  • Ensures that adjusters meet CIGA's high claim handling expectations as evidenced by the application of sound claim handling practices and the attainment of passing audit scores.
  • Assists in developing Plans of Action on files reserved above an adjuster's authority and ensures that Plans of Action on files reserved within an adjuster's authority are in compliance with CIGA standards by:
  • Monitors and assists the adjuster in dealing with defense or coverage counsel on complex or technical claims.
  • Approves settlement authority requests above adjuster's authority level and within supervisor's authority level, and recommends settlement authority for specified amounts in excess of supervisor's own authority level to claim management.
  • Provides technical direction and support to adjusters on claim handling issues.
  • Facilitates the development of staff by addressing short-comings and providing growth opportunities. Provides the training needed for staff to overcome short-comings and to be successful by creating Individual Development Plans.
  • Identifying and advising of emerging trends and issues within and outside the unit, providing, when necessary, a recommended course of action. Promotes new procedures and ideas for improving the effectiveness of the unit.

Position Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

Education: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university preferred, but not required. An industry certification from the Insurance Education Association, Insurance Institute of America, Workers' Compensation Self Insurance Certification or a California Experienced Claims Adjuster Designation.

Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience administering complex and technical California claims. Litigation experience preferred.

Special Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software skills, in particular Excel, Word, and Outlook and CIGA claims systems. Experience with PowerPoint, Publisher, and Adobe Acrobat.

Skills: High level of literacy and arithmetic skills, as demonstrated by activities or achievements in or out of the work environment. High level of interpersonal skills associated with effective employee communications.

· Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to plan, prepare, and present material effectively, as required, to achieve the accountabilities of the position.

· Ability to work with facts and legal concepts and applying same to achieve appropriate and acceptable claim dispositions.

· Has a strong working knowledge of CIGA's claim system software application.

· Detailed understanding of job related California Labor Code, Section 1063 and 14.2 of the California Insurance Code, including keeping current with changes and potential developments with an extensive understanding of CIGA's statutory defenses.

· An ability to analyze economic and financial data as warranted.

· Ability to work independently with moderate supervision.

The 2026 salary rate for a Claims Supervisor is based on market pay grades and, on the candidate's, specific experience, skills, education and training.

This is an exempt position. Pursuant to state and local laws the pay range for this position is $115, $167,109.00.
