Recovery Specialist

To engage individuals who have been reversed from an opioid overdose and provide non-clinical assistance and recovery supports to those suffering from a substance use disorder while maintaining follow-up with these individuals.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides on-call coverage and reports to the hospital emergency department to support the overdose survivor or person with substance use disorder when an alert is received;
  • Provides post-emergency department and/or follow-up from initial engagement after telephone follow-up for at least six months to help the client navigate the early stages of recovery;
  • Serves as a positive role model to clients and families, providing them with hope along with information, skills and resources needed to initiate and maintain recovery;
  • Provides regular updates to the Patient Navigator regarding the patient's progress outside of treatment;
  • Enhances identification and participation in the recovery community;
  • Advocates for appropriate and effective community treatment and recovery;
  • Completes required paperwork completely, efficiently and timely as required by the funder and the evaluator;and
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma; Associate's Degree preferred;
  • Three (3) years of recovery experience demonstrating the use of the principles of recovery that assist in ongoing enhancement of health and wellness;
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of other Recovery Support Services in the community;
  • Must obtain Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) certification within one year of official hire date;
  • Must have the availability to be on-call and work a 12-hour shift from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.;
  • Valid driver's license and use of own vehicle for self-transportation;
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural diversity issues; able to effectively work with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and races;
  • Ability to effectively work as a member of a team;
  • Computer literacy essential – Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word;
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, including intervention and relationship building skills.
