Position Summary: 

The Quality Assurance Inspector is responsible for managing the quality functions of internal Aircraft Maintenance operations. The Quality Assurance Inspector establishes quality standards, practices, policies and procedures. He/she is responsible for the training, deployment of quality practices, and monitoring quality consistency throughout the department.

The Quality Assurance Inspector is responsible for the overall operation of the Inspection Department and will have the final authority in the releasing to service of airframes, engines, appliances and the component parts thereof. In addition, he/she is responsible for directing, planning, and laying out the details of inspection standards, methods, and procedures in complying with all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, manufacturer's specifications and recommendations. The Quality Assurance Inspector shall hold a valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate under 14 CFR §65 and Inspector Authorization.

TRAINING/SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES REQUIRED 

  • Complete annual training as required by company policy and law on an annual basis in a timely manner.
  • Read all newsletters and bulletins to remain current on policies, procedures, and developments as well as to meet all company compliance standards. 

RESPONSBILITIES/DUTIES

  1. Performs the Self-Evaluation Processes.
  2. Promotes aviation safety by ensuring airworthy and quality aircraft maintenance.
  3. Assure that all inspections are properly performed on all completed work and that the proper inspection records, reports, and forms used by the repair station are completed and executed prior to releasing the product for return to service.
  4. Determine that all technical data on articles overhauled or repaired by the repair station are kept current with latest revisions. This data includes manufacturer's overhaul manuals, service bulletins, part specifications, related FAA approved data, and other technical data used by the repair station.
  5. Assure that periodic checks are made on all inspection tools and the calibration of precision equipment used by the repair station and technicians who keep their own precision equipment. Further assure that current records of those inspections and tests are maintained.
  6. Determine that no defective, unserviceable, or unairworthy parts are installed in any component or article released by the repair station.
  7. Submit reports of defects or unairworthy condition in accordance with 14CFR §
  8. Assure the proper execution of a maintenance release and/or FAA Form 337 when required.
  9. Guide the final acceptance of all incoming material, including new parts, supplies, and the airworthiness of articles on which work has been performed outside the repair station.
  10. Guide the preliminary, hidden damage, in-progress, and final inspections of all articles maintained by the repair station and the recording of results of such inspections.
  11. Guide the proper tagging and identification of all parts and components as outlined in this manual.
  12. See that unairworthy parts are segregated and quarantined in such a way as to prevent their reuse as serviceable parts.
  13. Assure that all inspections are properly performed on all completed work before it is approved for return to service, and that the proper inspection and maintenance records, reports and forms required for each release are properly executed.
  14. Assure that the proper inspection records, reports, and forms used by the repair station are available to all inspection personnel.
  15. Maintain and keep current a regulatory library including federal aviation regulations, type certificate data sheets, and FAA published airworthiness directives.
  16. Compile completed work orders and inspection forms in such a manner that once filed information pertaining to a specific item can by readily located for review.
  17. Assure that the responsible technicians properly execute complete entries on forms and work orders used by the repair station.
  18. Assure that procedures used in procurement and reception of aircraft parts will guard against "bogus" and "unapproved" parts from entering the parts system and to ensure that any such parts are detected before their use.
  19. Ensure that any maintenance performed for 14 CFR 121, 125, 129 or 135 Carriers under a Continuous Airworthiness Program per 14 CFR 145.1 through is accomplished in accordance with that Carriers manual and that all required inspection items are inspected by RII inspectors, not performing the work.
  20. Ensure each air carrier's RII procedure is followed and that inspectors assigned RII responsibilities for the air carrier are properly qualified, trained and authorized 
  21. Ensure that all regulations are followed as it relates to Contract Maintenance IAW 14 CFR h) &
  22. Ensure that proper entries are made into maintenance logs & work orders IAW 14 CFR Part 43 and Operator/Air Carrier manuals.
  23. Has the authority to de-certify a maintenance function if the applicable 14 CFR and/or company requirements is not being complied with.
  24. Recommends, as required, individuals for Repairman's Certificate.
  25. Administers the Repair Station Training Program and maintains the Technician's Training Records.
  26. Controls the Inspection Roster. Designating qualified personnel as Quality Inspectors and Receiving Inspectors.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS, SYSTEMS

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a current A&P license.
  • FAA IA Designation (Preferred)
  • Must meet the position requirements of qualifications as required by 14 CFR d)(3)
  • Be qualified through training, experience and expertise

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Have at least 3 years of maintenance experience on different types of large aircraft with 10 or more passenger seats with an air carrier or certificated repair station, 1 year of which must have been as a maintenance inspector.
  • Have at least 1 year of experience in a supervisory capacity maintaining the same category and class of aircraft as the certificate holder uses.
