SUMMARY:

The Operations Manager of Facilities receives general directions from the Director and Manager to assist with the day-to-day site/shift operations. Under general supervision and in accordance with established procedures, is responsible for supervising operational personnel, assures appropriate response, proper follow-up occurs on all incidents and that all documentation is accurate and complete. Participates in the formulation and implementation of departmental strategic planning, represents the department and/or shift on interdepartmental and intradepartmental committees, participates in the annual preparation of the department budget and ensures that Facility team members heed hospital policies and practices relating to facility and Life safety.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in interviewing and hiring process for operational staff; provides orientation to new employees; evaluates capability, performance, efficiency and appearance of staff on a routine basis, completing formal performance evaluations annually; counsels develops and motivates support staff; utilizes hospital's corrective action process as appropriate; keeps support staff informed of all departmental/hospital activities, policies and procedures; coordinates scheduling of operational staff ensuring adequate coverage at all times; oversees the payroll timekeeping and approves all time off requests, schedules overtime as necessary.

Assesses and participates in the training needs of operational staff; conducts training sessions in a workshop/classroom setting; participates in the creation of departmental recognition and retention programs and other departmental committees and initiatives; works with department management team in its total quality management efforts to improve services, enhance productivity and support to the hospital community.

Ensures that hospital facility regulations are enforced, and that violations and problems are investigated and appropriately reported to management. Conducts facility surveys/risk analyses program to determine vulnerability and risk to the Institution and communicates risk reduction recommendations to appropriate parties.

Responds to emergencies or major occurrences that require departmental managerial intervention; facilitates repairs to areas where facility failures are issues. Oversee the monitoring and maintenance of department vehicles, any facility system and equipment. Oversees the orderly handling of reportable documents (testing, certifications, repair reports, etc.) between the Hospital and regulatory agencies. Provides input into annual departmental budget preparation. Complies with efforts to provide cost effective services within budget parameters.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

High School diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Facility related experience preferred. Supervisory abilities to effectively oversee the activities of a contract Facility staff and assist in the operation of the department. Knowledge of life safety policies, procedures and regulations necessary to conduct inspections and ensure compliance with established regulations.

Interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, physicians and hospital staff of all levels.
