Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Associate to join their Chicago-based team. This individual will take on a pivotal role in executing turnaround engagements where decisive operational expertise is required. The role involves serving in fiduciary capacities - most often as an interim CRO, board member, or senior advisor - with full authority to drive company-wide transformation.

This is not a traditional consulting or advisory position; it is an
execution-driven role
for an operator who thrives in ambiguity, takes ownership, and delivers results under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support interim senior executives (CRO, Board Members, or other fiduciary leaders) by executing operational and financial workstreams that advance turnaround initiatives.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of recovery plans, including analyzing liquidity, restructuring operations, refocusing business units, and identifying opportunities to improve profitability.
  • Collaborate closely with lenders, private equity sponsors, and company leadership to gather data, prepare analysis, and help drive operational and strategic recommendations.
  • Lead or support key operational functions during transitions, including finance, supply chain, and other critical business units, ensuring initiatives are executed efficiently.
  • Prepare and deliver performance reporting, dashboards, and stakeholder communications that maintain transparency and support senior decision-making.
  • Contribute to measurable outcomes by identifying opportunities, tracking progress on operational initiatives, and supporting actions that enhance enterprise value and stabilize business performance.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 3-5 years of experience in turnaround, restructuring, or interim leadership roles.
  • Proven success stepping into executive-level positions (CRO, COO, or Board roles) within distressed or underperforming companies.
  • Strong operational orientation—comfortable rolling up your sleeves and leading teams through execution rather than relying on abstract strategy.
  • Deep understanding of middle-market business dynamics, including manufacturing, distribution, or industrial operations.
  • Financial fluency across liquidity management, cash flow forecasting, and lender/sponsor negotiations.
  • Exceptional communication skills and executive presence to navigate complex stakeholder dynamics.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong bias toward action and accountability.
  • Chicago-based or open to relocation.
