Purpose of Position:

To introduce middle school students (Grades 6–8) to career pathways and workforce skills in alignment with the district's CTE goals, helping students make informed choices about their high school courses and future careers. This role supports early career awareness, identity development, and decision-making.

Alignment with Manor ISD CTE Vision

This position would support Manor ISD's long-term vision of workforce readiness by:

  • Building the CTE pipeline early, so more students enter high school with purpose.

  • Increasing equity in access to career knowledge, especially for underrepresented students.

  • Reinforcing partnerships with local employers and the Career Certification Center.

Career Awareness & Instruction (During School)

  • Facilitate age-appropriate career exploration workshops (e.g., "What is a Career?", "What Do You Want to Be?", "Jobs in Our Community," ect).

  • Integrate with core and elective teachers to support career connections in math, science, and reading (e.g., "Careers that require math").

  • Organize career days, guest speakers, or field trips to local businesses and high school CTE classrooms.

  • Teach soft skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, professionalism, ect.

Student Advising & High School Planning (Before, During School, and After School)

  • Support 8th grade students in exploring high school endorsement pathways (STEM, Business & Industry, Public Services, etc.).

  • Help students create Individual Graduation Plans (IGPs) tied to career interests and skills.

  • Collaborate with school counselors to deliver sessions on goal setting, motivation, planning for high school and post secondary.

Student and Community Engagement (After School, Evenings, Occasional Weekends)

  • Host career exploration nights,

  • Bring in bilingual or local community leaders to talk about their career journeys.

  • Coordinate career clubs or mentoring programs for students who want extra exposure.

Program Coordination & Collaboration

  • Work closely with:

  • CTE Director and high school workforce specialist to bridge 8th to 9th grade transition.

  • Core content teachers to embed career exploration into academics.

  • Local employers or nonprofits offering middle school programs or tours.

  • Support initiatives like Middle School Career Camps or job simulation activations.
