The Role:
The Senior Full Stack Software Engineer for Quality Risk Management is responsible for developing software applications that support the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) business process, spanning the product development lifecycle from Design through Production. The ideal candidate for this role will be comfortable working with applications that involve complex data requirements and will provide solutions using proven, industry-standard methodologies. You will be directly involved in writing software solutions based on detailed requirements and system specifications.
Additionally, you will oversee development activities to ensure delivery of world-class capabilities aligned with GM's corporate and business objectives for a greenfield Quality application. This role offers the opportunity to advise, coach, and mentor software engineers, while making a significant impact on this new application.
Key Impact:
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to mission-critical systems that transmit data to federal regulators under strict legal mandates. You will work across the full technology stack, building efficient data workflows to manage sensitive and regulated information. Your work will directly support GM's ability to meet mandatory reporting deadlines, maintain data integrity, and uphold compliance standards.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Design and implement responsive front-end web applications using modern frameworks such as Angular or React.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs leveraging Java with Spring Boot or Quarkus.
- Produce clean, maintainable, and well-documented code while mentoring team members on best practices.
- Conduct thorough code reviews and perform unit and integration testing to ensure quality.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in applications and data pipelines.
- Optimize systems for scalability, security, and high performance.
- Automate unit and end-to-end testing to enhance software quality and maintainability.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to address data-related technical challenges and define requirements for effective data management solutions.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent professional experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
- 7+ years of hands-on software development experience with Java for back-end development and proficiency with modern front-end frameworks.
- 5+ years practical experience with SQL and working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle).
- 3+ years of experience building front-end applications using Angular or React.
- 3+ years of experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs with Java and frameworks such as Spring Boot or Quarkus.
- Deep understanding of REST architecture, microservices design principles, and API security best practices.
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipeline implementation.
- Ability to identify opportunities for automation and implement effective solutions.
- Strong grasp of networking and distributed computing concepts.
- Responsible for defining, maintaining, and ensuring compliance with technical and operational metadata standards, data movement patterns, ETL standards, and best practices.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and experience working in Agile environments using the Scrum framework.
People Skills:
- Proven ability to lead development initiatives, overseeing planning and execution of deliverables within collaborative team environments.
- Independent, self-driven, and quick to learn, with strong problem-solving skills to address challenges efficiently and thoroughly.
- Highly organized and adept at managing multiple priorities in fast-paced, dynamic work settings.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey ideas, translate feedback into actionable solutions, and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Proficient in Azure Cloud services and infrastructure management.
- Skilled in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for automated deployments.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks and DBX job orchestration for data engineering workflows.
