Job Title: CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT / INDUSTRIAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER INTERNSHIP
Location: Norfolk, Virginia
Job Type: Internship
About Us:
At Jody's, we don't just produce popcorn; we craft joy in every kernel. Our dedicated Popcorn Specialists handcraft each batch to ensure that our customers receive the best-tasting popcorn possible. If you are passionate about food, thrive in a dynamic environment, and possess a keen eye for detail, we want to hear from you
Position Overview:
We are looking for a high energy, focused, self-disciplined self-starter who has an interest in learning more about manufacturing processes by assisting in implementation of standard work processes through the development of training and process documents. The Plant is implementing an ERP System, and this will be part of the process. The primary focus for this internship would involve interacting with machine operators and documenting work processes and writing SOPs to improve the efficiency of start-ups and change overs. After you create the start-up checklists, you will work side by side with our machine operators to implement these changes. This is a full-time, on-site paid internship opportunity starting in January 2026. We will also be interviewing for the same position for a summer 2026 internship. Note: The Plant is operational from 6:30 AM-11PM, so the successful candidate could work a schedule that would accommodate school requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Observe start-up and change over operations and document set points. You will then generate digital and printed machine set points (based on the data you gather) to improve our efficiencies, streamline changeovers and supercharge start-ups.
- After creating the start-up checklist, you will work side-by-side with the operators to help them implement the start-up checklists you've created to improve efficiency and eliminate wasted time and product.
- To quantify your efforts, you will conduct time studies to document and quantify the impact your internship makes on the efficiency of the plant's operations. These time studies will show the impact your work product will have on the Plant's production and give the intern strong measurable data to add to his/her resume.
Additional Responsibilities:
- You must be comfortable communicating directly with machine operators and line workers to collect data and to roll out the new procedures you create.
- You will report directly to the Plant Manager but will also work closely with the production supervisors.
- You will present your findings and activities weekly to the Company President, Plant Manager and Production Managers.
Qualifications:
- High energy
- Self-discipline
- Extrovert
- Ability to create training documents in a PDF format.
- Ability to comfortably interact with employees at all levels of the company.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
- And of course, performs other duties as assigned by the Plant's management team.
- Must be a rising Sophomore, Junior or Senior currently pursuing a bachelor's degree at an accredited university in a relevant field of study.
- Pursuing a degree in Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering would be beneficial but not a requirement.
- Must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA or higher
Compensation:
- Pay Range: $25.00 per hour
- Expected Hours: 40
Benefits:
- This is a great opportunity for an intern to develop and document measurable data that can be added to his/her resume. If you are looking for an internship where you will gain "hands on" interactions directly with the production team, learn real-world skills and boost the strength of your resume, and make an impact on a company's bottom line, this could be the internship for you
Work Location:
This position is in-person at our Norfolk facility.
If you are ready to contribute to a team that values quality and innovation, we invite you to apply
Job Type: Part-time
