Job Description And Duties

Can you type at a speed of 40 words per minute? If you answered yes to all the questions, this Court Clerk position with the Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC) may be for you.

DWC within the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) is responsible for the administration of workers' compensation claims and provides services to assist in resolving disputes with claims for workers' compensation benefits. DWC is seeking an individual who is interested in performing meaningful clerical work and collaborating closely with the Office Services Supervisor II (OSSII) to manage case assignments. The court clerk will examine and evaluate legal documents such as case openings, pleadings, and other correspondence for the Disability Evaluation Unit (DEU), workers' compensation judges, and court personnel. Additionally, the court clerk will meet with the public to answer questions and assist with filing documents relating to the Labor Code, regulations and court rules both in person and via telephone.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. Working Conditions
This position is located at:

320 W. 4th Street, 9th floor

Los Angeles, CA

The OT(T) works in a smoke-free DWC Office under LED lighting, controlled temperature, quiet to moderate noise levels; equipped with cubicles computer, and other office equipment. Ability to retrieve and transport legacy box files in a safe manner.

The office is located in the Junipero Serra Building across the street from a Metro station and a block away from Grand Central Market and other sites of interest within the Arts District of downtown Los Angeles.

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired.
