POSITION SUMMARY: Internship Program Overview - Midrex's 2026 Summer Internship Program offers an immersive assignment to undergraduate and graduate students, enhancing their understanding of the business world through valuable, hands-on experience with a people centric organization. Midrex offers a 40 hour per week, paid internship that begins with an orientation in May and concludes in August.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Project(s) will be determined according to skillset of intern and company need. Project will support the group activities listed below
- Improve the existing suite of proprietary calculation tools
- Develop process modeling and data analysis programs (Python, C++, or Excel) under the supervision of a chemical engineer in collaboration with software engineers
- Assist in the analysis and development of new flowsheets and equipment designs
- Develop gas, water, and solids mass and energy balances
- Participate in plant troubleshooting by analyzing relevant data sets
- Document work, including through the issuance of internal technical reports
- Work in accordance with the Midrex Code of Ethics and ISO requirements
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Required:
- Strong understanding of chemical engineering fundamentals
- Experience with computer programming (any language)
- Ability to perform calculations in the field of Chemical Engineering
- Strong critical/analytical thinking and problem solving
Preferred:
- Strong understanding of heat and mass transfer, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics as it relates to equilibrium
- Proficient in Python, C++ in the Visual Studio development environment, git, Markdown
- Competent in Microsoft Office Products – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Experience with Process Modeling software such as Aspen Plus or similar
- Familiarity with statistics and machine learning. Experience with tools such as scikit-learn would be a plus
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in chemical engineering or related field
- Computer science experience strongly preferred
- Minimum 3.5 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate) cumulative GPA

- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
