About the Position

Reporting to the Chief Credit Officer, the Senior Portfolio Risk Manager will lead the management and resolution of a portfolio of loans, with a strong emphasis on workout lending, troubled debt restructuring, and complex commercial real estate. This includes monitoring borrower risk profiles, conducting annual reviews, testing loan covenants, analyzing distressed assets, and preparing modifications requiring external loan council approval.

Responsibilities


• Collaborate with Workout Officer and Legal on workout strategies for distressed loans, including restructuring, collateral analysis, and recovery planning.


• Oversee performance of assigned loans, with a focus on complex commercial real estate and construction projects.


• Conduct quarterly analysis and reporting for troubled loans, identifying risks and recommending mitigation strategies.


• Collaborate with cross team members to assess collateral value, risk rating downgrades, and potential loan loss.


• Manage covenant compliance and borrower communication, including financial statement collection and violation follow-up.


• Prepare detailed relationship annual reviews.


• Prepare loan modification packages for external loan council approval.


• Interpret and analyze legal documents including leases, mortgage notes, and contracts.


• Review construction budgets, project plans, appraisals, and inspection reports.


• Maintain accurate loan files and respond to portfolio data requests.


• Participate in deal status calls, with both internal and external stakeholders, focused on monitoring, tracking, and documenting project progress, addressing issues, and comparing to plan.


• Provide peer-to-peer training support to Portfolio Risk Manager.


• Support special projects and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive work environment.

Qualifications and Skills


• Formal commercial credit training is strongly preferred.


• Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or finance, and 5+ years of experience in commercial lending with a focus on workout lending, portfolio management, and complex commercial real estate. In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of relevant experience.

Specialized Skills – Required


• Proven experience managing distressed loans and developing workout strategies.


• Strong background in commercial real estate and construction lending.


• Ability to synthesize financial and market data to make sound credit recommendations.


• Advanced financial analysis and modeling skills in Excel.


• Experience interpreting legal and real estate documents.


• Effective communication skills for presenting credit and investment analysis to stakeholders.

Specialized Skills – Preferred


• Experience with Salesforce, Moody's, and TEA (loan accounting software).


• Experience working with grants and New Market Tax Credits.

Salary Range

Invest Detroit offers a competitive salary range of $100,000–$130,000 for the Senior Portfolio Risk Manager role, commensurate with experience, skills, and potential for growth within the organization.
