Industrial Controls Technician — Food Processing Automation

Bridor USA is building a cutting-edge industrial bakery in Salt Lake City, and we're looking for a hands-on controls expert to help bring it online and keep it running at peak performance. You'll report to the Maintenance Manager and play a central role in commissioning, optimizing, and sustaining automated production and utilities systems in a highly regulated food environment.

A day in the life

Morning starts with a walk-through of automated lines: you review overnight logs, check HMIs, and verify sensors and conveyors are in spec. A packaging station flags a fault—your PLC troubleshooting isolates a misaligned sensor, you adjust it, and production is back on track. After lunch, you tweak control logic to boost throughput while maintaining product consistency, document the change, and collaborate with QA and Engineering to confirm alignment with GMP, HACCP, SQF, FDA, and USDA requirements. You finish the day calibrating instrumentation and updating maintenance and compliance records.

Travel and launch plan

Before the Salt Lake City facility is fully operational, you'll receive hands-on training and participate in knowledge transfer at our sites in Vineland, NJ, and Boucherville, Canada. Expect to travel about every two weeks until early 2026, when the SLC plant reaches full operations.

What you'll tackle
  • Maintain, diagnose, and repair automated assets: PLCs, HMIs, sensors, conveyors, and packaging equipment.
  • Execute preventive maintenance and calibration on controls and instrumentation.
  • Rapidly resolve automation issues to minimize downtime and support production goals.
  • Partner with Production, QA, and Engineering to uphold food safety and operational standards.
  • Modify and optimize control logic to increase throughput, reduce waste, and improve product uniformity.
  • Keep precise records of changes, maintenance actions, and regulatory documentation.
  • Work in compliance with GMP, HACCP, SQF, FDA, USDA, and related standards.
  • Assist with commissioning and integrating new automation technologies and equipment.
Qualifications and experience
  • Degree or technical certification in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar discipline.
  • 2+ years in industrial automation within food manufacturing or another regulated processing environment.
  • Hands-on exposure to automated packaging systems, robotics, or machine vision.
  • Proficiency programming PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI development, and industrial networking.
  • Knowledge of food-grade equipment design, sanitary principles, and CIP systems.
  • Familiarity with Mitsubishi, B&R, Tele-Mecanique, Wonderware, and motor drives from Mitsubishi, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Lenze, and SWE.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical manuals.

  • Flexibility for weekends or on-call rotations as needed.
Technical toolkit
  • Proficiencies: PLC troubleshooting, electrical schematics, CAD, industrial automation diagnostics, production optimization, PLC programming, high-voltage systems, pneumatics troubleshooting.
  • Equipment: VFDs, PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Siemens, B&R), and servo motors.
