Reports To: Service Manager
Summary: The Diesel Technician is an integral part of the Service Department team. This position is crucial in achieving customer satisfaction by applying high-level technical expertise to repairs of medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and trailers. The Service Technician is responsible for completing repairs within the allotted time frame, performing diagnostic tests for routine maintenance procedures and determining a course of action for damaged parts and systems, repairing malfunctioning components, retrofitting engines, changing brakes, adjusting steering systems, replacing worn-out parts, changing fluids, and the ability to work respectfully with other departments, vendors, customers and co-workers.

Primary Accountabilities:
- Using advanced technical knowledge, perform repairs for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and trailers within allotted time limits.
- Perform diagnostic tests to determine a course of action for repair using computerized and/or specialized tools.
- Establish list of parts needed for repairs based on diagnostic tests, and work with the Parts Department to assess parts availability.
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery
- Use KARMAK repair order system effectively, following established policies and procedures and have the ability to learn other proprietary software from supported truck manufacturers
- Explain mechanical diagnoses and required repairs in a non-technical manner to service advisor
- Clearly and concisely document each repair task on the repair order form
- When repair is complete, ensure vehicles are parked in assigned areas, trucks are locked and keys are tagged and properly stored.
- Complete all required training within specified time limits.
Qualifications that a candidate MUST possess to gain consideration for this position:
- Minimum of 2 years technical experience in the automotive or medium/heavy duty truck industry.
- High degree of product and technical knowledge
- Ability to use a personal computer, a general understanding of Microsoft Office software programs, and the ability to learn other database or proprietary software programs as needed
- Excellent follow-through, problem solving and organizational skills
- Must be self-motivated with good written and verbal communication skills
- Must be a team player with a strong sense of commitment to the customer, and to performing required tasks accurately and professionally
- Must conduct his/herself in a professional manner.
- Must have the ability to work other shifts for coverage of sick days or vacation relief.
- Valid New York State Drivers License
Qualifications that are WANTED in a candidate:
- Possess a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License
- Advanced technical training/education Training/Educational Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent

- Work as a team to reach or exceed established service goals
- Exceed customer expectations by:
- Repair completed on time, within estimate, and correctly the first time.
