Job Summary
Performs complex payroll processing work. Work involves processing payrolls and preparing and maintaining payroll records and reports; and providing guidance to others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Functions
- Prepares documents for payroll processing to include auditing coding information and mathematical calculations and performing and verifying data entry; identifies errors and submits for corrective action; and reviews and audits completed payroll records for accuracy and conformance to established procedures and regulations.
- Enters, updates, and retrieves information from various automated, human resources, and payroll systems.
- Answers questions and resolves issues related to payroll matters.
- Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education, Experience, and Training
- Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
- Three years full-time, wage-earning accounting, clerical, human resources, payroll, or
financial operations experience. Fifteen semester hours from a college or university
accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education accreditation
(CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may be substituted for
each six months of experience.
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent to include word processing,
spreadsheet, database, or presentation software programs preferred.
- Experience in a governmental agency and financial operations preferred.
- Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of state governmental accounting, generally accepted accounting principles and
procedures, office practices, and governmental regulations applying to accounting records.
- Knowledge of state and federal payroll rules, regulations, and laws.
- Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures,
rules, and regulations preferred.
- Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
- Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the
public.
- Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network
environment.
- Skill to make arithmetic computations.
- Skill to maintain confidential and sensitive information, as well as accurate records, files,
and reports.
Additional Requirements With Or Without Reasonable Accommodation
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend
repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize,
