POSITION: Kitchen Assistant- Seasonal DEPARTMENT: Production

STATUS: Hourly/Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Production Manager

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Seasonal Kitchen Assistant plays a vital role in producing the different types of candy, concentrating on the latter stages of the candy production process to include packaging.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily monitoring of production schedule and performance of assigned tasks in an excellent manner.
  • Daily manage time and tasks to the best of your ability so that all assigned tasks are completed on schedule as scheduled by the Production Manager.
  • Proficiency with departmental equipment, such as enrober, melters, roaster and sealer.
  • Interaction with coworkers for smooth departmental functioning
  • Preparation and clean up of work area
  • Packaging of finished product according to specifications
  • Proper labeling of finished product and storage guidelines
  • Ability to accept instructions well
  • Assist in other production departments as requested
  • Assist in shipping department as directed and be able to utilize shipping equipment (tape, labels, and scanner).
  • Shared responsibility and participation in GMPs
  • Shared responsibility of maintaining HACCP compliance
  • Assist other departments as needed

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Skill and Ability: follow directions and safety procedures; maintain quality standards at all times, even while doing repetitious work; work well within a team environment; perform multiple tasks at the same time; familiarity with chemistry of candy, chocolate, humidity and temperature; fluency in written and spoke English
  • Tools, Equipment or Machinery Used: spoon, spatula, chocolate melter, scale, scraper, table top melter, enrober, cutters, double boiler, roaster, sealer, heat gun, knife
  • Minimum Physical Requirements: stand for up to 7 hours per shift, lift up to 35 lbs; bend, stoop, climb, kneel, see, hear; handle or feel objects and tools; grasp, turn, raise arms above shoulder height
  • Personal Qualities: quantity and accuracy; cooperation, reliability, attendance and punctuality; initiative, alertness and judgment
  • Risk of Assault or Injury: moderate; must follow proper safety procedures
