Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.
The RoleFinance & Strategy is responsible for improving strategic, financial and operational decision-making across Block. Our team's core value is trust – we build it by making what is complex simple, and with analysis that is accurate and easy-to-understand. We are looking for a Finance & Strategy Corporate FP&A Senior Analyst who will be the primary owner of Block's balance sheet and cash flow forecasting. This role will sit at the center of Block's lending ecosystem, partnering cross-functionally with accounting, treasury, capital markets, and finance teams to develop sophisticated financial models that drive critical business decisions. You will be the go-to subject matter expert for understanding how any business decision impacts our balance sheet and cash flow statement, while playing a key role in developing financing and funding strategies for our growing lending products portfolio.
You Will- Own Balance Sheet & Cash Flow Forecasting: Be the primary person responsible for creating, maintaining, and updating Block's comprehensive balance sheet and cash flow forecast models across all business units
- Drive Strategic Financial Planning: Lead the development of Long Range Planning (LRP) models, supporting quarterly planning processes with detailed financial analysis and scenario modeling
- Create Unit Economics Models: Build and maintain sophisticated unit economic models for each of Block's lending products (Cash App Borrow, Pay in 4, Square Loans, etc.), analyzing ROI/ROE performance and cash flow characteristics
- Develop Funding & Capital Strategies: Partner with Treasury and Capital Markets teams to evaluate and recommend optimal funding approaches (equity, warehouse, deposits) for different lending products, including tier-based funding recommendations
- Analyze Business Decision Impact: Serve as the subject matter expert for assessing how strategic initiatives, product changes, and business decisions affect Block's balance sheet and cash flow statement
- Create Executive & Investor Materials: Develop sophisticated financial analyses for board presentations, investor communications, and executive decision-making, including cash generation scenarios and liquidity management strategies
- Drive Cross-Functional Partnerships: Collaborate with accounting, treasury, capital markets, finance, and business unit teams to gather inputs, validate assumptions, and ensure alignment on financial forecasts
- Monitor Key Financial Metrics: Track and report on critical ratios including loans-to-liquidity, equity capital ratios, and cash generation metrics
- Lead Process Improvement & Automation: Identify opportunities to streamline financial planning processes, enhance data governance, automate forecasting elements, and integrate AI tools to improve efficiency and forecast accuracy across the corporate finance function
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in FP&A, corporate finance, investment banking, treasury, or related field with direct exposure to balance sheet and cash flow modeling
- Advanced Financial Modeling: Proficiency in building complex, multi-scenario financial models, unit economics analyses, and advanced Excel skills with financial planning systems and database experience
- Balance Sheet & Cash Flow Expertise: Proven experience building comprehensive financial models with emphasis on balance sheet and cash flow forecasting, beyond traditional P&L-focused roles
- Banking or Lending Experience: Prior experience with banking, lending products, or financial services is strongly preferred - understanding of loan portfolios, funding structures, and credit risk
- Cross-Functional Partnership Skills: Demonstrated ability to work effectively across multiple teams (accounting, treasury, capital markets, etc.) and build strong working relationships
- Analytical Excellence: Highly analytical mindset with eagerness to learn, strong problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to present complex financial analysis to executives and board members
- Self-Starter Mentality: Ability to execute independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive initiatives across functional teams
- Commitment to Block's Mission: Passion for Block's mission to expand access to the economy
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Accounting, or other relevant field
- Advanced degree (MBA, CFA, or similar) in finance or related field
- Experience with Oracle systems and SQL
- Capital Markets or Treasury experience with warehouse facilities, debt financing, or deposit funding
- Process improvement or operations experience in finance functions
- Experience at high-growth technology companies or fintech organizations
- Financial Planning Systems: Hyperion, Oracle Procurement, Workday
- Modeling & Analysis: Advanced Excel, Google Sheets, SQL
- Data & Reporting: Tableau, Looker, various internal financial systems
- Collaboration Tools: Google Workspace, Slack, internal Block platforms
