Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Chemist to join our innovative team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in analytical and physical chemistry and quality control. The Environmental Waste Chemist is responsible for the analysis, classification, and management of chemical and hazardous waste streams in accordance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. This position ensures proper waste handling, treatment, and disposal practices while supporting compliance, environmental safety, and sustainability initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Waste Characterization: Identify, classify, and profile hazardous and non-hazardous waste according to RCRA, DOT, and EPA regulations.
  • Sampling & Analysis: Collect and analyze samples of waste materials using standard laboratory techniques and instruments (e.g., GC, ICP, HPLC, titration, pH, flash point).
  • Documentation: Prepare waste profiles, manifests, and analytical reports to ensure accurate regulatory documentation.
  • Compliance: Ensure waste handling and disposal activities comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety laws.
  • Facility Support: Provide technical support to operations and field teams on waste segregation, labeling, and storage requirements.
  • Vendor & Disposal Coordination: Work with approved waste disposal and recycling vendors to ensure proper treatment, transportation, and final disposition of waste.
  • Training: Assist in training personnel on chemical waste handling, emergency response, and environmental safety procedures.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in environmental audits, process reviews, and waste minimization projects.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field required.
  • 2–5 years of experience in environmental, laboratory, or hazardous waste management preferred.
  • Experience with RCRA, DOT, and OSHA hazardous materials regulations strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of chemical properties and compatibility.
  • Ability to interpret and apply environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency in data management, recordkeeping, and technical reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in laboratory, warehouse, and field settings.
  • Exposure to chemicals, waste materials, and varying environmental conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including respirators, gloves, and protective clothing.
  • May involve lifting up to 50 lbs. and occasional travel to waste disposal or client sites.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75, $85,000.00 per year
