Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our Substation and Transmission Line Engineering and Design (STED) Organization, specifically, within our Substation group in Minneapolis, MN.  The paid internship provides an opportunity to gain a broad look at the electric utility industry through entry-level tasks.  The program provides practical work experience assisting on electric substation projects including the design, fieldwork, and print preparation for major capital projects.  The work may include some special assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participation in one of our major electrical equipment technical committees.

• AC and DC auxiliary system calculations.

• Assist with standard or process document updates.

• Assist with data maintenance and analysis.

This position is for a June 1, 2026 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship's initial term based on the candidate's successful performance and Xcel Energy's business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

• Current student, must be a current Sophomore

• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering 

• Able to commute to the corporate office in Minneapolis, MN

• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week).

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher

• Completed coursework on the topic of electric power systems
