Automotive Technician Apprentice / Porter

Reports To: Master Technician / Service Manager

Position Summary

As an Automotive Technician Apprentice/Porter, you'll work side by side with master technicians and service professionals, gaining hands-on experience with advanced automotive systems and technologies found only in high-performance vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Support & Training

  • Assist experienced technicians with inspection, diagnosis, and repair of vehicle systems — including engines, transmissions, suspension, brakes, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil and filter changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and battery service.
  • Operate diagnostic tools, scanners, and specialized shop equipment under supervision.
  • Follow manufacturer and dealership repair procedures, documentation standards, and warranty policies.
  • Participate in ongoing technical training and certification programs.

Shop & Vehicle Operations

  • Move customer and dealership vehicles safely between departments and service bays.
  • Keep the service area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Support technicians by staging vehicles and equipment for scheduled repairs.
  • Maintain proper tagging and documentation for all vehicle movement.
  • Ensure all safety policies and PPE requirements are followed at all times.

Customer & Dealership Support

  • Greet customers and direct them to the appropriate advisor or department.
  • Assist with vehicle prep and delivery for customers.
  • Help maintain the appearance of the service lane, parking areas, and customer waiting zones.
  • Assist with dealership events, vehicle deliveries, or inventory transfers when needed.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who is motivated, reliable, and ready to learn.

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow directions, stay organized, and work safely in a fast paced environment.

Preferred:

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, an accredited automotive training program (e.g., UTI, Lincoln Tech, Community College, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of automotive systems, tools, and diagnostic methods.
  • Previous experience in a dealership or shop environment a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform frequent standing, bending, and reaching
  • Comfortable operating vehicles and using shop tools safely

Career Path:

This role is the first step toward becoming a Ferrari Certified Technician. Apprentices who show strong technical skill, attention to detail, and a commitment to learning may progress to Automotive Technician, Master Technician, or other advanced service roles within the dealership network.
