The Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in supporting the overall HR strategy across a variety of ministries, schools & academies, and business functions. This position is responsible for managing the entire recruitment process from start to finish, as well as overseeing employee relations activities. Additional responsibilities include assisting with benefits administration, coordinating with related vendors, and managing various HR assignments and projects. The Human Resources Generalist reports directly to the HR Manager. The successful candidate for this role is expected to be action-oriented, ambitious, and a self-starter who is driven to achieve results. Furthermore, this individual must consistently represent Rock Church and Academy and the HR department in a professional manner, while upholding the integrity of established policies and procedures.
Requirements
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Human Resources Generalist fulfills a wide range of responsibilities in support of the HR strategy across multiple ministries, schools & academy and business functions. This role requires a proactive approach to talent management, employee relations, and administrative support.
Talent Acquisition and Recruitment
- Executes talent acquisition strategies by evaluating recruitment sources and supporting workforce planning to ensure organizational staffing needs are met.
- Manages the entire recruitment process, collaborating with hiring managers, posting job openings, sourcing candidates, scheduling interviews, overseeing applicant testing, and conducting background checks.
- Assists hiring managers in developing job profiles and preparing new hire offers.
- Prepares new hire paperwork and delivers orientation and onboarding programs, including required training for incoming employees.
- Builds strong, professional relationships with internal clients to advise and influence a positive employee engagement and experience.
- Responds promptly and professionally to requests from staff and leadership, ensuring that HR services meet the needs of internal clients effectively.
- Supports employees with payroll and benefits self-service questions and provides information as needed.
- Assists in administering benefits programs, managing vendor relationships, and preparing necessary compliance documentation.
- Helps with the administration of payroll, benefits, leaves of absence, worker's compensation, and unemployment claims.
- Updates and audits employee files to maintain accurate records.
- Researches, updates, and ensures adherence to employment law and HR standards.
HR Policies, Systems, and Events
- Develops and implements HR policies and procedures to support organizational goals.
- Maintains the HR information system (HRIS) and prepares necessary reports.
- Assists in planning and organizing employee events to foster a positive workplace culture.
- Stays up to date with current HR knowledge by attending workshops and engaging in professional networking.
Education, Training, and Experience
A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred. Candidates should possess a minimum of three to five years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Comprehensive understanding of human resources principles, practices, legal frameworks, and administration is required. Prior experience with HRIS systems is essential. Proficiency in managing complex employee relations issues at a basic level is expected.

Strong oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and accuracy are vital for success.
Organizational SkillsMaintaining a high level of organization and accuracy is important. The position demands strong attention to detail throughout all aspects of the job.
Collaboration and IndependenceThe ability to work productively both independently and collaboratively with team members is required. Proven teamwork skills are necessary for effective group problem-solving and for meeting commitments.
Following InstructionsAccurately following verbal and written instructions is a key aspect of this role.
Time ManagementEffective management of time is fundamental, especially when handling several complex projects at once and working under pressure to meet deadlines.
Technical ProficiencyComputer proficiency and technical aptitude are required, including familiarity with Microsoft Office for MAC (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Docs, and an HRIS or other electronic HR, payroll, or benefits systems.
HR Process EnhancementThe role involves recommending and advising on enhancements and changes to HR processes.
Analytical and Problem-Solving SkillsStrong analytical skills are necessary to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, respond promptly to requests for service, and work well in group problem-solving situations.
AdaptabilityThe ability to adapt to frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events in the work environment is important, demonstrating flexibility throughout.
Organizational and Spiritual Requirements
A core expectation of this role is to consistently demonstrate Christ-centered behavior. All interactions should be marked by dignity, respect, compassion, and integrity, reflecting Christian values in both behavior and action. When disagreements or differences of opinion arise, the principles outlined in Matthew 18 and Ephesians 4:15 should guide conflict resolution, encouraging open, honest, and loving communication.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of comprehensive pre-employment reference and background checks. This process includes verification of social security information, searches of local, state, and federal criminal conviction records, review of national security databases, and checks against the sex offender registry.
Attendance at all mandatory meetings and events, including the annual gala, is required as part of this role. Additionally, candidates must be members of the Rock Church, or if associated with the Academy, members of a Christian church. Regular involvement in church activities, ministries, and events is expected.
A signed acknowledgment of the Rock's Statement of Faith is necessary, indicating agreement with the organization's core beliefs.
The ability to interpret and adhere to the Rock's policies, procedures, and employee handbook is essential. The role calls for self-motivation, goal orientation, good judgment, flexibility, and innovation, along with a consistently professional behaviors and demeanor.
Physical Requirements

The pay range for this role is estimated to be between $78,000 and $82,000 based off of a combination of education and direct experience.
