Overview
The Performance Management Specialist is a key executor of core talent processes that support employee development, accountability, and talent visibility across the organization. This individual contributor role focuses on the day-to-day coordination and delivery of performance management cycles, talent calibration sessions, and succession planning activities. Working closely with HR Business Partners, Total Rewards, and Learning & Development, the specialist ensures that performance processes are well-managed, data is accurate, and stakeholders are supported throughout each cycle. While succession planning is part of the broader talent ecosystem, the core focus of this role is on operationalizing performance and calibration processes that inform talent decisions and development planning. This role is trusted to move work forward through strong project coordination, attention to detail, and proactive partnership—ensuring talent processes are executed consistently and effectively across the enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Talent Management leads to operationalizing performance management processes, including goal setting, mid-year check-ins, and year-end reviews. Coordinate timelines, communications, and system readiness in partnership with HR Operations and Total Rewards.
  • Support the planning and facilitation of talent reviews and calibration sessions. Prepare materials, manage data inputs, and ensure consistency in how talent is assessed across functions and levels.
  • Assist in the execution of succession planning processes by maintaining talent profiles, tracking readiness levels, and supporting HRBPs in identifying critical roles and successors for mid-level leadership. Ensure data integrity and follow-up actions are captured and monitored.
  • Serve as a connector across HR teams—working with Total Rewards on performance-related pay decisions and with HRBPs to ensure talent insights are translated into action.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders—including HR Business Partners, team leads, and program participants—to support the successful execution of talent initiatives such as performance management, career development, and learning programs. Serve as a liaison between Talent Management and business units, gathering stakeholder feedback to inform program improvements and ensure alignment. Support stakeholder communications by preparing materials, facilitating meetings, and delivering updates that promote transparency, engagement, and understanding of talent strategies. Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure stakeholder needs are addressed in program design and delivery, escalating risks or misalignments to leadership as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Deveopment, Business, or related field - Preferred
  • 5 years of experience in Experience in performance management, talent review cycles, and talent development.
  • 5 years of experience in Strong understanding of talent review processes, leadership development, and organizational design.
  • 1 year of experience in Experience with HRIS and talent management systems (e.g. Workday, SuccessFactors).
  • 3 years of experience in Excellent analytical, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Certification in talent management or organizational development (e.g. SHRM-SCP, ATD, HCI). - Preferred
  • Project management experience or certification (e.g. PMP). - Preferred

Compensation
In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share that the starting base pay range for this position is $61,810 to $97,130 annually. Please keep in mind that this range is the base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the Talent Acquisition & Onboarding position. If you are hired at Paychex, your overall compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience which may result in total compensation outside of this range.
