Overview

We are seeking a friendly and enthusiastic Bookseller to join our retail team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for books, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to create an inviting shopping environment. This role involves engaging with customers, managing inventory, and promoting our products to enhance the overall bookstore experience. Prior retail experience, especially in a grocery or bookstore setting, is a plus. Bilingual abilities are highly valued to serve our diverse customer base. The Bookseller position offers an engaging work environment where communication skills and sales techniques are essential for success.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers in locating books and related products, providing knowledgeable recommendations
  • Operate POS systems efficiently for sales transactions, returns, and exchanges
  • Stock shelves with new arrivals and restock as needed to maintain attractive displays
  • Conduct product demos and promote special offers or new releases to increase sales
  • Manage inventory levels through merchandising and stock management practices
  • Handle cashiering duties including cash handling, basic math calculations, and balancing registers
  • Maintain a clean and organized store environment adhering to merchandising standards
  • Upsell complementary items such as gift cards, accessories, or related merchandise
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries with professionalism and courtesy
  • Assist with supervising staff during shifts if applicable, ensuring smooth store operations

Requirements

  • Previous retail sales experience preferred, especially in grocery stores or bookstores
  • Familiarity with POS systems and cashiering procedures
  • Strong communication skills and phone etiquette for engaging with customers
  • Ability to perform retail math accurately for transactions and inventory management
  • Experience in merchandising, stocking, and product demos is advantageous
  • Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to serve a diverse clientele
  • Demonstrated customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor
  • Supervising experience is a plus for leadership roles within the team
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic math skills necessary for cash handling and sales calculations
