General Statement of Job

Under general supervision, conducts field inspections of permitted development to ensure compliance with adopted codes and ordinances of the City related to building construction and development. Inspects progress of construction, repairs or alterations to ensure compliance with standard building codes. Assists Master Inspectors, Plans Examiner, and Building Official.

Minimum Training and Experience

Education:

High school diploma or GED

Experience:

Two (2) years of experience as a Building Inspector, Superintendent, Contractor, in the construction industry or in a relevant field of specialty

Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Provisional License from South Carolina LLR
  • Must be able to obtain ICC Building Inspector Certification (within six (6) months of employment)
  • Must be able to obtain ICC Plumbing Inspector, ICC Mechanical, ICC Electrical Certification (within twenty four (24) months of employment)

  • The City retains the right to determine equivalencies.
  • Any certifications not possessed at hire, must be obtained before the employee is removed from probation in order to continue employment with the City.
Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to operate an automobile, various small hand tools, and a variety of automated office machines, which includes a computer, copier, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to forty pounds.
