Portland, Oregon, United States Multnomah Athletic Club Full time

Multnomah Athletic Club is more than Portland's most legendary hub of sports and socializing. It's like a small city unto itself. Where else can you find four restaurants, three pools, a climbing gym, state-of-the-art studios and fitness suite, a complex of racquet sport courts, massage offerings, a boutique, plus a grand ballroom and variety of events spaces all in one place? To say that every employee of MAC has room to move is an understatement almost as big as MAC's 600,000 square feet of recreational possibilities.

Want a career with a future? A campus worth exploring? A one-of-a-kind community on which you can have a direct impact? MAC is all of those things and more.

The Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Assistant Ski Coach to join our dynamic MAC Ski & Snowboard team. This is an exciting seasonal opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with youth athletes and fostering a love for skiing and competition. As an Assistant Coach, you will work with athletes ranging in age from 6 to 21, helping them develop their skills, achieve their goals, and compete in a variety of races and events. You'll be part of a supportive and energetic coaching staff, reporting directly to the Lead YSL Team Coach, Lead USSS Team Coach, and Program Director/Head Coach. Your work will focus on the YSL Team (ages U8 to U14) or the USSS Team (ages U14 to U21), depending on your experience and qualifications.

This is part-time, seasonal position at local ski locations and with the homebase being the club in Portland, OR.

What You'll Do

  • Coach Athletes: Work with athletes on the YSL Team (U8 to U14) and/or the USSS Team (U14 to U21), providing instruction and guidance across one to four training days per week, including weekend sessions and night training.
  • Train and Develop: Help athletes progress through various skill levels, from foundational techniques to competitive race strategies. For the YSL Team, you'll work with younger athletes on developing their fundamental skills, and for the USSS Team, you'll coach athletes focused on more competitive and advanced race environments.
  • Support Competitions: Coach athletes in local and regional races, such as the MHYSL series, U12 Buddy Werner Championships, PNW U14 Qualifier Series, and the Northwest Cup Series. Help guide athletes through race prep, strategy, and performance analysis.
  • Work Collaboratively: Collaborate closely with other coaches to create a positive, performance-driven training environment. Work with athletes to help them set and achieve their personal goals in both skill development and competition.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience & Certification: Current professional certification from US Ski and Snowboard and/or PSIA, or relevant experience in ski instruction, race coaching, or competition as an athlete. Competitive coaching experience is preferred but not required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with technology, including email communication, Microsoft Office programs, Dayforce app, and Team Snap for scheduling and team communication.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong planning and organizational skills to ensure smooth communication and efficient operations during the ski season.
  • Passion for Skiing: A genuine passion for skiing, coaching, and youth development. You are dedicated to inspiring and helping athletes reach their full potential in a competitive environment.
  • Team Player: A collaborative and adaptable attitude, with a focus on working as part of a larger coaching team to support the growth of athletes and the overall program.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the coaching position, including, but not limited to, long periods of standing & walking, skiing, etc.

What You'll Gain

At Multnomah Athletic Club, we believe in taking care of our team members. We offer a wide range of benefits to ensure your well-being, both inside and outside the club. Here's what's in it for you:

  • Competitive Pay: Base hourly rate with potential increases based on experience and certifications.
  • Season Pass: Enjoy a free season pass to Mt. Hood Meadows.
  • Facility Access: Free access to our exercise room and classes, climbing gym, and pools.
  • Convenience: Free parking and discounted public transportation passes.
  • Well-being: Access our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and the Headspace wellness app for free.
  • Perks: Enjoy discounts on club services and meals

Ready to take your coaching career to the next level? We look forward to hearing how you can contribute to our vibrant team here at The MAC
