Job Summary
A Mechanical Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Wilmington, NC area. This Mechanical Engineer role is responsible for supervising, installing, debugging, and starting up automated equipment domestically and internationally, requiring strong project management, troubleshooting, safety adherence, and redlining/documentation skills.

Responsibilities
- Role provides mechanical discipline support in the construction, installation, debug, and start-up of equipment and automated systems.
- The position is primarily hands-on and requires spending the majority of time on the floor working on equipment, both domestically and internationally.
- Involves supervising and directing internal/contract engineering techs, maintenance, and outside contract trades during all phases of equipment conversion (demolition, construction, installation, testing, debug).
- Responsibilities include developing and using project plans and timelines while adhering to safety, IP, and quality guidelines.
- Must ensure safety is analyzed, all requirements are met, and report/investigate all safety incidents.
- Requires developing an understanding of the process and equipment functions.
- Must analyze and correct installation practices to improve efficiencies and enhance installation schedules.
- Involves re-designing mechanical components to reduce cost, solve interferences, and correct inadequate designs.
Skills
- Requires understanding of process variables (flow, temperature, rate, pressure, level).
- Determines and recommends the best solution from alternatives within plant guidelines.
- Translates engineering solutions to requirements, then to process/equipment designs, and interprets drawings/schematics for troubleshooting.
- Works well with other disciplines (IT, Mechanical, Process engineering) to understand system functionality.
- Familiarity with process piping system design, including P&IDs, is required.
- Requires a thorough understanding of mechanical drive trains, electrical and pneumatic actuators.
Education And Experience
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent,
- With minimum 3+ years manufacturing experience.
