Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Engineer I - V CNS (Mechanical or Electrical) located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska.  Position closes January 31, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time or until filled. 

Position Summary

This position will support the Engineering Programs & Components (EP&C) Department.

The Engineer will be responsible for managing their assigned Engineering programs, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Cooper Nuclear Station. Programs may include, but are not limited to, lube oil analysis, aging management, and preventative maintenance. The Engineer will contribute to maintaining high standards of safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

This position may be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that requires response to the station when an emergency is declared.  Assignment to one of these positions and a condition of continued employment will be the ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency.

Note:  Level I to Level V Engineer is considered a progression and is approved by the appropriate manager.  Engineering positions are managed under the NPPD Nuclear Engineering Career Path document. 

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (ABET Accredited School).  Mechanical or Electrical Engineer degree preferred.

Other Requirements:

Proficient communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel and Word.

Technical writing skills.

Entry into the Nuclear Engineering Support Program (ESP).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Program Management:

  • Oversee and manage assigned Engineering programs
  • Develop, implement, and maintain program procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Monitor program performance, conduct regular assessments, and implement improvements as needed.

Technical Analysis and Reporting:

  • Perform technical analysis to evaluate the condition and performance of systems and components within the assigned programs.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation, including findings, recommendations, and action plans.
  • Present findings to management and other stakeholders, providing technical expertise and guidance.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all activities within the assigned programs adhere to safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in Engineering program reviews, audits, and inspections.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations and standards.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with other Engineers, Operations, Maintenance, and other departments to ensure seamless integration of program activities.
  • Provide technical support and training to plant personnel on program-related matters.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, fostering a collaborative work environment.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for improvement within the assigned programs, leveraging best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Implement and monitor improvement initiatives, measuring their impact on program performance.
  • Stay informed about advancements in technology relevant to the assigned programs.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.  Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Engineer I - Exempt pay grade 12: $6,837 - $8,636 Monthly

Engineer II - Exempt pay grade 13: $7,668 - $9,686 Monthly

Engineer III - Exempt pay grade 14: $8,720 - $11,231 Monthly

Engineer IV - Exempt pay grade 15: $10,006 - $12,887 Monthly

Engineer V - Exempt pay grade 16: $11,480 - $14,785 Monthly

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska)  Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
