Graham Packaging Company has a Yard Jockey Specialist / Truck Driver – Local (with CDL A) opening in Maryland Heights, MO. This opening is for a DAY SHIFT position, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. Must be willing to work a day shift or night shift, as shifts may change in the future because of union rules.
- Pay: Up to $28.98/hr.

As a Yard Specialist / Truck Driver - Local, you will assist operations in an active trailer yard, performing a variety of duties including operating a spotter truck. Preferred candidates will have at least three years of commercial driving experience in a vehicle of similar size, weight, and controls as a terminal tractor and proficiency in backing trailers into dock doors and parking slips; demonstrate strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills; good communication with diverse audiences; ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment; and a commitment to building strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and outside vendors. You will make sure the right products get where they need to go, safely and on time. You'll handle local deliveries between our sites and customer locations, playing a big part in keeping our operations running smoothly. ResponsibilitiesThe primary duties of a Yard Jockey Specialist / Truck Driver – Local include:
- Correspond with multiple shipping companies and demonstrate comprehensive understanding of shipping systems, requirements, rules and obligations to support yard organization and minimize delays.
- Conduct daily coordination with fulfillment center operations departments, transportation peers and carriers to ensure all trailers arrive and depart on time with zero defects.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the trailer yard through meticulous attention to detail and daily yard audits.
- Consolidate data from multiple sources to support daily workflow and business needs.
- Operate spotter truck, moving trailers between trailer yard and dock doors and logging all trailer moves to maintain accurate yard inventory.
- Operate a power-driven forklift for the purpose of loading and unloading freight.
- Support production by following all safety measures and policies and demonstrating safe behavior.
- Operate a Class A commercial motor vehicle in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Drive and deliver materials safely across local routes connecting company facilities, warehouses, and customer sites.
- Perform pre-trip, in-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicle and cargo to ensure roadworthiness and compliance.
- Secure trailer loads using appropriate equipment and ensure cargo is protected during transport.
- Maintain accurate driver logs and other required documentation, including delivery records and fuel usage.
- Communicate effectively with the dispatch, warehouse teams, and customers to ensure delivery accuracy and resolve issues.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including those specific to loading docks, forklifts, and packaging environments.
- Provide routine vehicle maintenance checks and notify appropriate personnel of any mechanical issues.
- Support warehouse operations and assist with loading/unloading as needed.
Preferred candidates will have at least three years commercial driving experience in a vehicle of similar size, weight, and controls as a terminal tractor and proficiency in backing trailers into dock doors and parking slips; demonstrate strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills; good communication with diverse audiences; ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment; and a commitment to building strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and outside vendors; hold an existing Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Valid Class A Commercial Drivers' License (CDL) High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Clean driving record in accordance with company and DOT standards.
- Knowledge of applicable DOT regulations and local traffic laws.
- Experience in Microsoft Office applications.
- Must be flexible for daily overtime and varying schedules as needed.
- Must have a valid driver's license and Company background check.
- Must complete Company website yard driver training.
- Familiarity with basic vehicle maintenance and safety inspection procedures preferred.
- Experience using electronic logging devices (ELDs) and delivery software a plus.
- Ability to:
- Stand and/or walk throughout a minimum eight-hour shift.
- Lift and move packages that mostly weigh 35 pounds or less.
- Regularly bend, lift, stretch and reach below the waist and above the head.
- Climb in and out of the spotter truck numerous times per day, hooking and unhooking trailers.
- Pass a forklift certification test.
