Position Summary

The
Patient Account Specialist Senior
provides advanced medical collection services for TLRA (The Legal Recovery Agency) collection units at Christus Health. This role is responsible for performing collection activities related to follow-up, account resolution, and reimbursement of inpatient and outpatient claims. The specialist must have strong knowledge of hospital billing processes (UB-04 and HCFA 1500 forms), payer requirements, and medical account management in a multi-facility environment.

The position requires adherence to all client, state, and federal regulations while maintaining a high level of professionalism and patient satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective and timely medical collection services to ensure successful recovery of outstanding accounts.
  • Perform account follow-up and resolution activities for balances placed with TLRA collection units.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, clients, payers, and vendors regarding account status and payment arrangements.
  • Collect balances due from commercial, governmental, and third-party payers to ensure proper reimbursement for all services rendered.
  • Identify denied or underpaid claims and work to resolve them within payer guidelines and timelines.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of payer claim processing, appeals, provider contracts, and payment methodologies.
  • Accurately document and update patient account records in the billing and collection systems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using standard billing forms (UB-04 and HCFA 1500) and understanding of Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
  • Utilize payer portals and online resources for claim status and payment information.
  • Identify and report issues, patterns, or trends impacting reimbursement and account resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Christus Health policies.
  • Meet or exceed productivity and quality expectations as outlined by TLRA and Christus Health standards.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    High school diploma or GED
    not required
    for this role.

  • Experience:

  • Prior experience working in a
    multi-facility hospital business office
    environment.

  • Strong knowledge of
    inpatient and outpatient billing
    , collection processes, and payer follow-up.
  • Familiarity with
    UB-04 and HCFA 1500 billing forms
    required.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in medical billing systems, payer portals, and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong understanding of insurance claim processing, denials management, and appeals.

  • Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
