Job Overview:
The Culture and Climate Specialist at Kuumba Academy Charter School serves as a key leader in cultivating and sustaining a joyful, inclusive, and high-expectations learning environment where every student experiences a deep sense of belonging, trust, and care. Grounded in Kuumba's mission and vision, this role is instrumental in advancing academic excellence while supporting the holistic development of each child—intellectually, socially, and emotionally.
Guided by the principles of the Nguzo Saba, under the direction of the Restorative Practice Coordinator the Culture and Climate Specialist plays a key role in supporting a safe, inclusive, and achievement-oriented school environment. This position is responsible for coaching staff on effective culture-building strategies, promoting high behavioral and academic expectations, analyzing school climate data, and implementing student-centered interventions that foster a positive school community. The Specialist will lead proactive initiatives that address student well-being, behavior, and engagement while strengthening partnerships among staff, families, and external service providers.
Academic Achievement and Character Development
- Champion a school culture rooted in high expectations by establishing and upholding rigorous academic and behavioral standards for all students.
- Collaborate closely with principals, restorative practice coordinator, educators, families, and other stakeholders to ensure the consistent and equitable delivery of student support services and schoolwide programs.
- Provide strategic recommendations to enhance school-based policies related to culture, climate, and behavior. Lead stakeholder engagement efforts, such as staff surveys and focus groups, to identify areas for improvement and develop actionable implementation plans grounded in research and best practice.
- Design and manage systems to monitor progress in culture and climate, utilizing key indicators such as attendance, disciplinary trends, student achievement metrics, and climate survey data.
- Partner with school administrators and student support teams to build their capacity in implementing effective, schoolwide discipline systems. Ensure these systems incorporate regular data review, targeted interventions for students demonstrating persistent behavioral challenges, and proactive strategies that promote positive student behavior and a supportive school culture and climate

Educational Background and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in social work, education, psychology human growth and development, criminal justice, behavior management, or counseling
- A minimum of four years of professional experience working with diverse student populations in an educational, behavioral, or social services setting.
- Demonstrated experience in culturally responsive practices, trauma-informed care, or restorative approaches is strongly preferred.
- Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree, depending on the depth and scope of demonstrated skills and impact.
This is a 10-month position.
Compensation:
Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $42, $60,000.00 per year
