Job Title: Behavioral Health Technician (Mental Therapy Aide)

Location: Syracuse, NY

Contract Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift: Night Shift

Weekly Gross: $1,560

Local Pay: $33/hr

Shift Structure
  • Combination of 4×12-hour (19:00–07:30) and 4×8-hour (23:00–07:30) shifts within a 2-week period
  • Hours per Day: 8–12 hours (varies by shift)
  • Shifts per Week: 4
  • Schedule Requirements: Every other weekend required; some holidays required
Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Behavioral Health Technician (Mental Therapy Aide) to support patient care in an inpatient behavioral health environment. This role involves assisting clinical staff, monitoring patient safety, providing therapeutic support, and contributing to a structured treatment setting for diverse behavioral health populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care, including assistance with ADLs, vital signs, crisis intervention, and routine safety checks
  • Support the treatment team in maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment
  • Assist patients in adhering to daily routines, therapeutic activities, and behavioral plans
  • Document observations, patient interactions, and safety measures accurately in the EMR
  • Recognize and report behavioral changes, safety concerns, or escalating situations
  • Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and other behavioral health staff to support patient care plans
  • Engage patients with empathy, professionalism, and effective communication
Required Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of Behavioral Health/Psych experience (2+ years preferred)
  • Prior inpatient psychiatric experience required
  • Pediatric/Adolescent psych experience preferred
  • Experience performing crisis intervention and maintaining safety protocols
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
Certifications
  • CPR Certification (Required)
