We are seeking a Senior Director of Compensation to lead the strategy, design, execution, and ongoing management of our global compensation programs. This role requires a strong analytical foundation, depth in compensation modeling, and the ability to advise senior leaders on complex decisions. This leader will serve as a strategic thought partner to the Chief People Officer, CFO, and other executives, driving compensation philosophy, design tradeoffs, and change management.

This role will guide the evolution and implementation of scalable compensation programs that support business priorities and long term workforce planning while ensuring readiness for future events including a potential return to public markets.

An ideal candidate will bring experience navigating public-company compensation requirements, private equity environments, and transitions between them; deep familiarity with executive compensation; and comfort preparing materials and modeling for Compensation Committees. They will be on the forefront of leveraging AI tools to improve compensation analytics as well as comp processes for the People team, managers, and employees. Experience in high-growth and global environments will be key to success. 

This is a hybrid role working from our NYC office. You will report to the Chief People Officer.

You'll Get To…
  • Lead the strategy and design for global compensation programs, including job architecture, base pay, short-term incentives, and equity programs
  • Provide strategic recommendations to executives on pay positioning, retention strategies, and compensation policy
  • Develop sophisticated financial and compensation models, scenario planning, and cost simulations to support data informed compensation decisions and workforce planning
  • Oversee the execution and ongoing management of compensation programs ensuring operational excellence in day-to-day execution, annual cycles, and equity administration
  • Build, lead, and develop a team of three compensation professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, curiosity, and continuous growth through coaching, mentoring, and career development
  • Partner with key leaders across the business to align compensation strategies with broader business and talent objectives globally, and to create and communicate a comp program that is a compelling part of the employee value proposition
  • Conduct market benchmarking using compensation surveys and internal equity analysis
  • Prepare Compensation Committee materials ensuring clarity, rigor, and alignment with governance requirements
  • Ensure compliance with global pay regulations and support evolving pay transparency initiatives
Who We're Looking For
  • 12+ years experience in compensation strategy, design, and management for complex, global organizations 
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing high-performing compensation teams
  • Strong fluency in data analysis tools and ability to translate complex analyses into clear, executive-ready insights
  • Experience implementing AI-driven tools to improve compensation workflows and outcomes
  • Creative problem solver who can translate business goals into actionable compensation strategies
  • Exceptional communication with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Experience with compensation survey providers (e.g., Radford, Mercer, WTW) and job leveling methodologies and frameworks
  • Experience outside of compensation in financial analysis, management consulting, or data science a plus

Cash Compensation Range: $225,500 - $330,000 USD

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include overtime pay), Squarespace employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase our common stock. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive structure in addition to base salary.
