Little Free Library is seeking an experienced Senior Director of E-Commerce to drive the strategic growth and operational excellence of our online sales channels, advancing both revenue generation and mission impact. This leader will oversee the development of a high-performing e-commerce team, optimize end-to-end operational processes, and expand our digital market presence to support long-term organizational sustainability.
As a key member of the leadership team, the Senior Director will shape and execute strategies that elevate the customer experience, strengthen fulfillment and logistics, and increase the reach and profitability of Little Free Library's online platforms. This is a pivotal role for a strategic, data-driven, and mission-aligned leader ready to build the next chapter of our digital commerce success.
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive e-commerce strategy aligned with organizational goals and mission.
- Identify and evaluate new digital and institutional markets and opportunities for revenue growth.
- Collaborate with the Director of Digital Marketing to drive long-range digital strategy development, including customer experience roadmaps, channel growth forecasting, and technology investment prioritization.
- Change management - align stakeholders, mitigate operational disruption, communicate vision, and embed new processes and technologies into the organization.
- Interpret complex data sets and business intelligence to influence strategic decisions and improve performance.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate e-commerce initiatives into the broader organizational strategy.
- Contribute as part of the Little Free Library leadership team to the overall success of the organization's mission, including actively advancing our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and championing key DEI initiatives.
Administrative & Organizational Management:
- Create and manage annual business plans, operating budgets, staffing models, and vendor/agency contracts with financial rigor.
- Lead quarterly and annual planning cycles, establishing clear department roadmaps and resource forecasts.
- Develop governance frameworks, documentation standards, and SOPs to ensure organizational consistency and operational transparency.
- Navigate cross-departmental alignment through structured communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making frameworks.
Operational Excellence & Process Development:
- Manage fulfillment operations to ensure quality service delivery both internally and externally.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director and Sr. Product Manager, manage Little Free Library product vendor relationships including contracts, product design, and fulfillment and quality standards.
- Design and optimize end-to-end e-commerce operating models, including workflows, resource allocation, process governance, and cross-team operating rhythms.
- Establish data-driven operating dashboards and performance cadences to monitor KPIs, identify bottlenecks, and drive continuous improvement.
- Identify new and existing product sourcing opportunities as necessary to support demand and evolving customer preferences.
- Develop, in collaboration with CFO and Executive Director, the annual plan for earned revenue operations, including revenues and cost of delivery. Manage resources and respond creatively to unforeseen circumstances to deliver that plan.
- Partner with the Director of Digital Marketing to enhance digital platforms, ensuring seamless user experience and data-driven decision-making.
Team Leadership & People Management:
- Build, scale, and lead high-performing cross-functional teams focused on operational excellence and innovation.
- Establish clear priorities, KPIs, and performance standards aligned to enterprise goals; consistently drives accountability and operational clarity.
- Demonstrate success in coaching and developing leaders, creating succession plans, and establishing structured career pathways.
Market Expansion & Innovation:
- In collaboration with the Director of Digital Marketing, research and pursue emerging e-commerce trends, technologies, and channels to enhance reach and revenue.
- In collaboration with the Director of Digital Marketing, develop strategies to grow online customer engagement, donor transactions, and cause-related product sales.
- Build partnerships that expand market access and brand awareness.
- Support Little Free Library at public events or conferences as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, E-Commerce, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 8–10+ years of progressive experience in e-commerce or digital sales leadership, ideally with experience in mission-driven or consumer-focused organizations.
- Demonstrated success in building and scaling online sales operations and teams.
- Strong background in process development, operational efficiency, and performance management.

- Proven ability to develop new markets and drive digital growth.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
- Proficiency with e-commerce platforms, analytics tools, and CRM systems.

- Deep understanding of enterprise e-commerce ecosystems.
- Strong competencies with digital analytics platforms and experience defining and analyzing KPIs such as conversion rate, AOV, customer lifetime value, attribution, cart abandonment, and merchandising performance.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $100,000–$110,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
