Description

DESCRIPTION

Under the direction and supervision of the Athletics Supervisor, the basketball scorekeeper will keep score at park district in-house, travel and or WTHS intramural basketball games. The scorekeeper will be responsible for reporting any necessary scores to the correct supervisor as needed. The scorekeeper will also make sure any assigned officials are present at their games and any game logs are filled out correctly and completely.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Check in officials, teams, staff and spectators.
  2. Hand out any materials to coaches, teams, officials or participants as told to by the Athletic Supervisor.
  3. Work with other staff members as a team.
  4. Effectively enforce the rules of a given park district or school district facility.
  5. Communicate the necessary league/age level rules to officials.
  6. Operate scoreboard via control panel during the course of assigned games.
  7. Maintain all necessary paperwork, including but not limited to attendance sheets, officials sign in sheets and official game scorebooks.
  8. Keep track of scoring, fouls and timeouts in official game scorebook.
  9. Report any final scores to specific supervisor as required.
  10. Communicate information, as needed, to staff members and participants.
  11. Maintain an approachable appearance and be friendly to participants, officials and parents.
  12. Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  13. Arrive on time as scheduled and dressed appropriately for work.
  14. Assist the program site supervisor as needed during your shift.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Athletic Supervisor.
  2. Maintain a positive attitude toward all co-workers and participants.
  3. Dress appropriately in uniform.
  4. Maintain a positive attitude and act professionally at all times.
  5. Be knowledgeable of phone locations and the telephone numbers for the police, fire, and paramedics in case of emergency.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: Applicant must have a good working knowledge of the rules of basketball and scorekeeping.
  • Education: A basic knowledge of basketball rules is required.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to communicate effectively via e-mail, phone and in person with direct supervisor.
    • Must also be able to communicate with large groups of people participating in or watching various sport leagues. This includes enforcing rules and policies of the park district or outside facilities.
    • Must have the ability to operate a basketball scoreboard/control panel and/or keep score in the official game scorebook.
  • Certifications: CPR, First Aid and AED certification is preferred
  • Competencies: The ability to learn new skills and oversee youth/teen and adult basketball games. Ability to work with diverse groups of participants and officials and communicate effectively with them. Must have a positive attitude.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    This position will require you to be sitting for a majority of the time when working your shift. Occasionally movement of supplies or equipment is necessary in which case the maximum weight that you are expected to be able to lift is 25 lbs., though typically it will be less than this.
