Senior Electrical Engineer – Factory Automation

Location: El Dorado Hills, CA

Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire | Onsite

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (PST)

Salary: $100,000 – $130,000 per year

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical design, development, documentation, and testing of factory automation systems. This role involves designing and integrating electrical subsystems for PLC-based control systems, industrial automation, robotics, Ethernet communications, and power distribution.

The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with management, mechanical engineers, software engineers, technicians, and vendors to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with management and engineering teams to define requirements for new or modified factory automation systems
  • Design and schematically capture complete electrical systems, including circuits, panels, enclosures, and cabling
  • Use approved CAD tools to create electrical designs and detailed assembly documentation
  • Select and integrate PLC components in accordance with company standards
  • Partner with software teams to support PLC programming, diagnostics, and foundational functions
  • Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness standards
  • Troubleshoot and debug newly assembled automation systems with cross-functional teams
  • Provide technical guidance and support to technicians during system assembly
  • Continuously improve design processes, tools, and documentation standards
  • Research and evaluate new CAD tools, diagnostic instruments, and automation technologies
  • Provide technical training and ongoing support to internal teams
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with vendors and component suppliers

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience in electrical engineering for factory automation or industrial system integration
  • Strong experience designing PLC-based factory control systems
  • Experience integrating industrial machinery, safety components, and automation equipment
  • Proficiency in electrical schematic design using AutoCAD, Microsoft Visio, or similar tools
  • Proficiency with mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and diagnostic tools
  • Strong understanding of electrical panels, enclosures, cabling, and assembly documentation
  • Proven troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Work Environment

  • Onsite role in a manufacturing and engineering environment
  • Hands-on work supporting assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of automation systems
