Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and energetic Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic to join our dynamic team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy machinery and industrial equipment used in construction projects. Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics on heavy construction equipment including excavators, cranes, bulldozers, loaders, and other industrial machinery using schematics and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) manuals.
- Conduct repairs and preventative maintenance on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, air brakes, and electrical components to ensure optimal performance.
- Fabricate custom parts or modifications as needed using welding, soldering, and fabrication tools to meet specific job requirements.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues involving power tools, hand tools, and specialized diagnostic equipment while adhering to safety standards.
- Maintain detailed service records of repairs performed, parts used, and inspections completed for compliance and future reference.
- Assist in the assembly and disassembly of equipment during repairs or upgrades with precision and attention to detail.
- Conduct tire service including replacement and alignment procedures to maximize safety and efficiency of heavy machinery.
- Support heavy lifting tasks using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or tractor-trailers when moving large components or machinery.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of maintenance schedules while minimizing downtime on active projects.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with project managers and clients regarding repair status or technical issues.
Requirements
- Proven mechanic experience with heavy construction equipment or industrial machinery; dealership experience is highly preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, HVAC systems in heavy equipment, and farm machinery.
- Ability to read schematics and OEM manuals accurately for troubleshooting complex issues.
- Proficiency with vehicle maintenance procedures including brake repair, wheel alignment, suspension servicing, HVAC repairs, welding, soldering, and tire service.
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, or tractor-trailers is advantageous.
- Skilled in the use of power tools and hand tools necessary for assembly and repair tasks.
- Knowledge of automotive diagnostics techniques combined with electrical experience for troubleshooting electrical systems effectively.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining proper ergonomics at all times.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to maintenance challenges.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and quality workmanship in all tasks performed.
- Valid certifications in diesel engine repair or related fields are preferred; ongoing training in new technologies is encouraged.
