Position: Transportation Driver

Location: On the road (driving company van)

Schedule: Full-time (8-hour shifts, inconsistent – Must be flexible with schedule)

Job Overview:

A NEMT (Non-Emergency Medical Transportation) driver is responsible for safely transporting patients to and from medical appointments, often including those with disabilities, by driving a specialized vehicle, assisting with boarding and disembarking, and ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the journey, while adhering to all necessary regulations and maintaining proper vehicle upkeep; essentially providing reliable, non-emergency medical transportation services to individuals who cannot drive themselves.

Key responsibilities of a NEMT driver:

  • Patient pickup and drop-off:

Safely pick up patients from their homes, assisted living facilities, or other locations and transport them to medical appointments, including hospitals, clinics, and therapy sessions.

  • Patient assistance:

Help patients enter and exit the vehicle, including those using wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids, by operating wheelchair lifts when necessary.

  • Secure transportation:

Properly secure wheelchairs and other medical equipment within the vehicle to ensure passenger safety during transit.

  • Route planning and adherence:

Follow pre-planned routes and schedules to ensure timely arrival at destinations.

  • Communication with dispatch and clients:

Maintain contact with dispatch to receive updates and communicate any issues that may arise during transport.

  • Vehicle maintenance:

Regularly inspect the vehicle for mechanical issues and ensure cleanliness both inside and out.

  • Documentation:

Complete necessary paperwork including trip logs, passenger information, and incident reports.

  • Customer service:

Provide courteous and professional service to passengers, addressing their needs and concerns with empathy.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Experience in passenger transportation, preferably with individuals with special needs
  • Physical ability to assist passengers with mobility challenges
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and patient care practices
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and regulations
  • CPR, First Aid, BLS certification required

Working Conditions:

· Standard work hours from 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM with flexibility depending on transportation needs

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $ $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
