Summer Seasonal Staff

FSY summer seasonal staff play a vital role in contributing to the success of the program. Employment with FSY is contingent upon personal singleness of purpose, which is to help youth and all present at FSY to strengthen faith in Jesus Christ and His restored gospel, feel joy and belonging in living His gospel, and be empowered to continue having spiritual experiences at home.

We seek young single adults with strong faith in Jesus Christ and in His restored gospel to serve as role models of divine sisterhood and honorable priesthood holders, future missionaries, mothers, fathers, and leaders in the Lord's church and kingdom.

FSY summer staff are religious ministers for the Church who are expected to be disciples of Jesus Christ that believe in, live, and support Church doctrine and teachings.

Payment for FSY summer seasonal staff varies by position.

Responsibilities (for all positions)

  • Willingly and responsibly work to promote the physical safety and spiritual well-being of participants attending FSY .

  • Help all youth build faith in Jesus Christ and in His restored gospel and create a learning atmosphere where all can recognize and learn by the Spirit.

  • Help all youth have a positive and uplifting experience.

  • Handle youth disciplinary situations with sensitivity as needed and directed, and in consultation with supervisory staff.

  • Act as an exemplary leader, role model, and mentor for youth participants and fellow staff members .

  • Read, study, and understand the FSY Staff Handbook prior to the first assigned week and continue studying throughout the summer.

  • Complete all required trainings . These include online training and in-person training in Utah.

  • Read, understand, abide by, and (where applicable) help enforce all FSY policies, as updated from time to time.

  • Whether or not youth are present, honor and model the youth conduct standards as outlined in Conduct at Church Activities – FSY Conferences . With kindness and sensitivity, help enforce the youth conduct standards.

  • Be energized and actively engaged, participate in activities—such as dancing, working in crowded and loud environments, playing physically demanding games, walking long distances in locations where it's necessary to navigate hills and stairs in multi-storied buildings—and perform all assigned duties.

  • FSY engages youth from early in the morning to late at night in activities that can be spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically demanding for FSY summer staff. At all times, be responsible to interact positively with, teach, accompany , and supervise youth for extended periods of time, maintaining the mental and physical well-being and emotional stability necessary to help all participants, including in stressful situations.

  • Understand and respond to youth participants' and colleagues' words, actions, and nonverbal communication in ways that help youth participants have a positive and uplifting experience.

Respond in kind and helpful ways that protect youth safety and well-being when youth participants have needs, including during the night.

Qualifications (for all positions)

  • Be a young single adult member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

  • Have a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and of His restored gospel and be willing to share it through words and actions.

  • Be fully supportive of the doctrine, practices, and leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

  • Accept as a condition of employment the holding of, and being worthy to hold, a temple recommend . This includes authorizing all questions to, discussions with, and disclosures by, the prospective employee's ecclesiastical leaders that pertain to the Church Ecclesiastical Clearance Office clearance process for new hires, as the process is updated from time to time.

  • Understand and be able to honor and model the youth conduct standards as outlined in Conduct at Church Activities – FSY Conferences .

  • Be able to help enforce the youth conduct standards with kindness and sensitivity.

  • Be able to make procedural decisions, exercising good judgement, reliability, and accountability.

  • Be able to organize resources and establish priorities.

  • Exemplify strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Pass required background check for this position.

  • Be authorized to work lawfully in the United States of America for FSY, LLC. * Please note that the employer is not offering employment with FSY as an internship, work experience, OPT, or any other visa-related opportunity and will not be able to provide visa sponsorship for this position in the United States of America . Simply having a passport does not of itself constitute authorization to work.

  • Complete all online training and complete in-person training in Utah (transportation to and from training is at your own liability and expense, but depending on distance, a travel allowance or reimbursement may be provided, at the sole discretion of the Employer).

  • Be able to accompany youth for extended periods of time over long distances throughout the day.

  • Be energized and actively engaged, participate in activities—such as dancing, working in crowded and loud environments, playing physically demanding games, walking long distances in locations where it's necessary to navigate hills and stairs in multi-storied buildings—and perform all assigned duties.

  • At all times, be responsible to interact positively with, teach, accompany , and supervise youth for extended periods of time, maintaining the mental and physical well-being and emotional stability necessary to help all participants, including in stressful situations.

  • Be able to understand and respond to youth participants' and colleagues' words, actions, and nonverbal communication in ways that help youth participants have a positive and uplifting experience.

  • Be able to respond in kind and helpful ways that protect youth safety and well-being when youth participants have needs, including during the night.

  • Be willing and able to travel to various FSY locations as needed. Travel to sessions is assigned, arranged, and paid for by FSY and will originate from and return to Brigham Young University. (Transportation to and from Brigham Young University is at your own liability and expense. Please see FSY Travel policy ).

Be able to accept session assignments that align with program needs, as determined by the Church .

Preferred

  • Returned Missionary

Able to work 6 or more peak weeks (highest program staffing need weeks). Individuals with at least 4 available peak weeks will be given preference in scheduling. We acknowledge the possibility that some individuals' availability may fall outside peak weeks or otherwise fail to align with FSY program needs. While we welcome applications from individuals with availability outside peak weeks, please be advised that session assignments are made according to FSY program needs and individuals whose availability is or becomes low may receive no assignments, and therefore no pay, even if hired.

Additional responsibilities and qualifications by position
Session Coordinator
  • Payment for FSY Session Coordinators is $1,100 per FSY session completed.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and execute various duties and activities of the FSY program as assigned ( including, but not limited to holding and leading effective meetings; and facilitating activities such as check-in, orientation, and devotionals) for the spiritual benefit of youth participants .

  • Work and communicate effectively with local campus personnel, session directors, staff, and all participants in a Christlike, professional manner to facilitate on-site coordination of assigned FSY sessions, as directed by a session administrator.

  • Work and communicate effectively with a co-coordinator to effectively build, inspire, mentor, and manage a leadership team to inspire and supervise staff and participants, under the supervision of a session administrator.

  • Inspire, mentor, and assist in the training and development of assistant coordinators, wellness coordinators, and counselors, specifically their ability to become proficient in formal and informal teaching techniques and to be a Christlike influence in the lives of youth and colleagues.

  • Guide staff in appropriate interactions with FSY program participants, give clear direction , and provide corrective feedback regarding their responsibilities .

Assist session administrators as directed in handling youth disciplinary situations and critical incidents with sensitivity and in accordance with FSY policy and the law.

Qualifications

Previous leadership experience supervising peers and/or youth.

Preferred

Previous FSY experience.

A ssistant Coordinator
  • Payment for FSY Assistant Coordinators is $900 per FSY session completed .

Responsibilities

  • Organize and execute various duties and activities of the FSY program as assigned ( including, but not limited to holding and leading effective meetings and facilitating large activities such as games night, musical program, variety show) for the spiritual benefit of participants.

  • Inspire, mentor, and assist in the training and development of counselors, specifically their ability to become proficient in formal and informal teaching techniques and to be a Christlike influence in the lives of youth participants and colleagues.

Guide counselors in appropriate interactions with FSY program participants, give clear direction, and provide corrective feedback regarding their responsibilities.

Qualifications

Previous leadership experience supervising peers and/or youth.

Preferred

Previous FSY experience.

Wellness Coordinator
  • Payment for FSY Wellness Coordinators is $900 per FSY session completed.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage and minister to youth and counselors in a Christlike manner.

  • Effectively teach the gospel of Jesus Christ and proclaim the doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in one-on-one and group settings. This includes leading inspiring interactive discussions and creating a learning atmosphere that will help youth recognize and learn by the Spirit.

  • Be willing and worthy to participate in religious activities and services by, among other things, bearing testimony, offering prayers, providing a priesthood blessing, and teaching the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • Actively participate with youth in gospel discussions and individual studies to teach and exemplify to the youth effective spiritual habits.

  • Work well independently and as a team member with minimal supervision.

  • When the situation occurs, respond to and assist participants with minor health needs in an empathetic, respectful, and Christlike manner by fulfilling the following duties:

  • Work and communicate effectively with local campus personnel, emergency responders, healthcare providers, session advisers, staff, parents, and all participants in a Christlike, professional manner in coordination of youth and staff wellness.

Maintain and submit accurate records of wellness incidents, medical services, and medications made available to youth participants.

Qualifications

  • Be able to coordinate the addressing of wellness needs of youth and staff while contributing with singleness of purpose and in Christlike ways to their growth in testimony of Jesus Christ and His restored gospel, joy and belonging in living His gospel, and the ability to continue having spiritual experiences at home.

Completion of and certification in an approved training program in practical nursing (CNA, MA, EMT, LPN, or RN) with a minimum of applicable nursing experience; or equivalent combination of experience and training by May 15 th of the summer for which you are applying to work .

Preferred

  • Six months experience working in a healthcare setting.

Previous FSY experience.

Counselor
  • Payment for FSY Counselors is $800 per FSY session completed.

Responsibilities

  • Work and communicate well with a co-counselor with minimal supervision and contribute consistently as a team member.

Effectively teach (formally and informally) in a group setting and lead inspiring, interactive discussions, creating a learning atmosphere that will help youth recognize and learn by the Spirit.

Qualifications

Be a minimum of 19 years old before June 1 st of the summer for which you are applying to work.

Preferred

Previous experience working with youth.
