USA Climbing supports the well-being, development, and competitive excellence of our athletes as we advance the accessibility and growth of the climbing community nationwide.

USA Climbing is the National Governing Body for the sport of competition climbing in the United States and is a member organization of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC). We are a small but highly committed team dedicated to advancing the sport and supporting athletes in achieving their best. USA Climbing hosts IFSC World Cups annually, sends elite athletes to compete internationally, and conducts programming and events for our Youth, Collegiate, Para Climbing, and Elite series. The organization is funded by members, donors, partners, and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee.

The USA Climbing Foundation is the philanthropic arm of USA Climbing focused on raising funds for USA Climbing.

Position Summary

USA Climbing seeks a detail-oriented and motivated relationship builder who will support the fundraising efforts for the National Training Center and organizational revenue objectives. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Major Gifts & Development Manager will be responsible for qualifying donors, building a donor pipeline, creating and implementing cultivation strategies for new and existing major gift candidates, soliciting annual and major gifts, and thoughtfully stewarding donors. The Major Gifts & Development Manager will also support foundation relations, including communications with the Board of Trustees, the growth and success of the USA Climbing philanthropic Impact Circles, executing regional events, and creating annual giving appeals. Travel is required for this position and is expected up to 40%.

Key Responsibilities

National Training Center (NTC) Fundraising (60%)

· Move a portfolio of 100 donors and prospects through quality, strategic contacts and face-to-face visits to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors to successfully close gifts ranging from $10K to $500K+;

· Work with the Director of Development to meet or exceed dollar and visit goals, with a focus on multi-year gifts and support for the NTC

· Craft bespoke proposals for philanthropic support for the NTC; assist the Development Director in creating proposals at the principal gift level

· Support the Director of Development to identify and cultivate relationships with Foundations and Corporate Partners in support of the NTC and organizational revenue objectives

· In partnership with the Director of Development, create compelling annual giving appeals, including mailings and digital pushes (~4x annually)

· Plan and execute regional events (~2-4 annually) to cultivate donors and build regional presence

· Assist the Director of Development in all Campaign related activities, including pipeline development, reporting, proposals, and events

Foundation Relations (25%)

· Assist the Director of Development in growing the philanthropic Impact Circles including: soliciting donors, keeping accurate records of membership and growth, supporting annual renewals, deploying onboarding materials, and ensuring all benefits are fulfilled

· Manage the benefits, annual meetings (~2x annually, 1 in person and 1 virtual) and engagement schedule for the Foundation Board of Trustees

· Draft and compile a monthly newsletter for Trustees

· Manage the Onboard platform for Foundation Trustees to include any relevant documents, committee materials, and messaging updates

Administration (15%)

·
Develop and maintain a thorough and accurate understanding of USA Climbing's programs and funding priorities to effectively connect donors and prospects to USA Climbing priorities and events

· Utilize and update the Raiser's Edge database by recording activities, contacts, and strategies on an on-going basis consistent with department policies.

· Support the Director of Development in additional projects, such as the creation of hospitality packages for the LA28 games and helping plan and coordinate an annual retreat for Impact Circle members.

Education and Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 4+ years in fundraising, business/donor development, major gifts, or related experience

· Working knowledge of fundraising concepts, principles, and best practices

· Sophisticated communication skills and demonstrated ability to increase current donor support, and to attract new donors

· Success managing high-visibility projects in a fast-paced environment

· Self-motivated and capable of working proactively and independently

· Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary with a demonstrated ability to write effectively for business/philanthropic communication purposes

· Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to multitask and work independently to meet deadlines

· Excellent interpersonal skills, strong writing skills, and the ability to work well under pressure

· A high level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office

· Ability to maintain high standards of confidentiality

Preferred:

· Proficiency with Raiser's Edge database system

· Ability to exercise good judgment and work with minimal instruction and supervision when necessary 

· Prior experience working with Board members & non-profit leadership

· Demonstrated experience in planning and executing donor events

Work Environment

This position is hybrid and based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Travel is expected up to 40%.

Compensation


• Salary range is $75,000 – 90,000 and is commensurate with experience.
