Job Description

The Advocacy Lead is responsible for managing communications and outreach in support of the Light Rail Infrastructure Project in Maryland. This position serves as a public information liaison and a communication link between the Light Rail Infrastructure Project and its stakeholders, and will require developing and maintaining effective working relationships with government and public officials, community partners and project managers. The Advocacy Manager develops and administers public awareness and education through outreach programs; defines strategies and proactively responds to informational needs; and provides project communications and other key information at stakeholder meetings, community outreach and public information sessions.

  • Develops communications strategies and produces informational materials and activities
  • Conceptualizes, leads and organizes planning and logistics for public outreach meetings, including sourcing, negotiating prices, and adhering to approved budgets
  • Collaborates with project personnel to translate complex concepts and data into understandable communication materials for the public
  • Works with project managers to review contracts, plans, schedules and other engineering documents.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with a broad cross-section of the community and coordinate communications and information flow to stakeholders
  • Work with public organizations to plan and develop outreach events and participation in community meetings
  • Ensure that quality is built into Light Rail Infrastructure Project communications, including the design and implementation of quality standards and data management of outreach material and internal documents
  • Oversees outreach and marketing activities including updating and maintaining project's website and social networking with events, news and information about the Light Rail Infrastructure Project
  • Supports project managers by drafting language and providing communication materials as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably a Master's Degree) in Engineering, Public Administration, Communications, or Project Management.
  • Five or more years working in engineering, construction management, public transit or land development.
  • Experience planning and facilitating meetings, working with community leaders and public officials, and handling and tracking intake material.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills with demonstrated experience establishing professional and well-organized end-product communications from various sources
  • Exceptional skills in public speaking, team building, constructive negotiation, and strong interpersonal skills in working with people of different interest and varying backgrounds
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and experience managing a team of professionals
