- A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a California skilled nursing facility provides direct patient care and support under the supervision of nurses and medical staff. Core duties include assisting residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) like bathing, dressing, and eating, monitoring and documenting vital signs and patient conditions, performing basic hygiene tasks, and helping with mobility. CNAs also answer call lights, serve meals, keep patient rooms clean, and communicate essential observations about patient well-being to the nursing team. Key Responsibilities
- Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Assist residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
Supervision and Communication
- CNAs work under the direct supervision of licensed nurses (RNs or LPNs) and must have excellent communication skills to report any changes in patient condition or needs to the nursing team.
Skills and Qualifications
- A valid California CNA certification is required.
- Strong interpersonal and compassionate communication skills are essential due to the intimate nature of the care provided.
- Physical stamina is important for tasks involving patient transfers and direct care.
- Familiarity with medical technology, including electronic health records, is increasingly important.
- Vital Signs & Monitoring: Measure and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate. Observe and document changes in a patient's condition, such as wounds or changes in behavior.
- Patient Support: Answer patient call signals and provide comfort and emotional support.
- Nutrition & Hydration: Assist with serving meals and fluids, and monitor and record food and liquid intake.
- Environmental Care: Keep patient rooms clean, tidy, and stocked with fresh water.
- Documentation & Reporting: Accurately document observations, care provided, and patient progress in the electronic health record.
- Team Collaboration: Work as part of the healthcare team, reporting observations and collaborating with licensed nurses and other staff to provide quality care.
- Infection Control: Follow established protocols to maintain a safe and clean environment for residents and staff.
- Mobility & Transfers: Safely assist patients with transferring between beds, wheelchairs, and walking.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $ $26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
