Research Technician in Forest Management

SUMMARY

This position requires a highly motivated and creative individual to join our dynamic and interdisciplinary forest management lab. The individual is expected to work 30 hours per week to support research projects focused on forest management and agroforestry practices for several grant-funded projects. Duties include project planning, fieldwork, data analysis, prepare and publish peer-reviewed research articles, and training students and staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Plan, manage, and conduct project activities related to forest management and agroforestry.

· Collect, analyze, and prepare data for detailed reports and presentations.

· Keep detailed records of project activities.

· Prepare and publish peer-reviewed research articles based on project results.

· Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in project activities.

· Ensure adherence to safety protocols in laboratory and field settings.

· Communicate research findings at regional and national conferences.

· Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· Ability to create and manage work schedules for self and project team.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and statistical software (e.g., R, SAS).

· Willingness to travel to off-campus research sites and participate in conferences.

· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor's degree in forestry, environmental science, soil sciences, or a related field.

· Experience in forestry project management and facilitation.

· Valid driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Master's degree in forestry or natural resources.

· Previous experience in field research.

· Familiarity with community engagement and educational outreach.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

· Ability to perform fieldwork, including lifting equipment and field supplies up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including cold and hot weather.
