Job Summary: A Registered Nurse at A2 Center is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. Our center features two fully equipped operating rooms dedicated to aesthetic cases, without the hospital red tape, so you can enjoy the benefits and flexibility of a private practice environment. In addition,exceptional nurses may have the opportunity to grow into a hybrid management/nursing role, taking on leadership responsibilities while continuing to provide direct patient care. This pathway allows high-performing team members to expand their impact by contributing to clinical excellence as well as operational leadership.

Detailed Overview: Ideal candidates have experience in both pre- and post-op and are willing to learn the OR circulator role if they do not have prior experience in the OR. This role involves performing pre-operative assessments, post-anesthesia monitoring, pain management, patient education, and care to ensure a smooth recovery process and positive experience for every patient. As a circulator, the nurse monitors conditions in the OR, assists the surgical team as a non-sterile member of the team, and ensures adherence to sterile techniques and regulatory requirements. The nurses at A2 Center work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare team members to maintain patient safety and comfort.Pre-Operative Duties:

  • Prepare the preoperative area and ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available and test and ensure all equipment is functioning properly.
  • Conduct preoperative assessments, including reviewing patient history, medications, allergies, and pertinent lab results.
  • Educate patients and families on surgical procedures and anesthesia.
  • Ensure all necessary preoperative documentation, consents, and clearances are completed.
  • Establish IV access and administer preoperative medications as ordered.
  • Monitor and assess patients' vital signs and emotional well-being before surgery.

Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Duties:

  • Receive patients from the operating room and provide immediate post-anesthesia care.
  • Continuously monitor vital signs, oxygenation, pain levels, and surgical site integrity.
  • Manage post-operative pain, nausea, and other side effects of anesthesia and surgery.
  • Provide airway management and intervene in emergencies such as respiratory distress or hypotension.
  • Administer prescribed medications, fluids, and treatments as needed and document accordingly.
  • Document patient progress, response to treatment, and any complications.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on post-operative discharge instructions, medication management, and follow-up care.
  • Ensure patients meet discharge criteria and coordinate safe discharge to home or transfer to a higher level of care if necessary.
  • Clean and restock the pre/post-operative area according to facility guidelines.

Circulator Duties:

  • Review patient charts, verify consent forms, and ensure accurate preoperative assessments.
  • Prepare the operating room by ensuring necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and test and ensure all equipment is functioning properly.
  • Direct the "time out" prior to the operation to confirm the correct patient identity, planned procedure, and surgical site per safety protocols.
  • Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, and ensuring proper application of monitoring devices.
  • Monitor and document all aspects of the surgical procedure, including the time out, pertinent staff activities, equipment use, and patient condition.
  • Ensure strict adherence to sterile technique and infection control protocols.
  • Provide additional supplies and sterile instruments as needed during the procedure.
  • Assist with patient repositioning during the surgery.
  • Handle specimens removed during the procedure and ensure proper labeling and documentation.
  • Assist with wound dressing application and patient transfer to the recovery area (PACU).
  • Ensure proper documentation of the procedure, including any complications, medications administered, and patient status.
  • Clean and restock the operating room and sterile supplies for the next procedure according to facility guidelines.
  • Participate in post-surgical debriefings and quality improvement initiatives.

Regulatory Compliance & Safety:

  • Adhere to all A2 Center policies and all state, federal, and accreditation regulatory standards (e.g., Quad A, AORN, OSHA).
  • Maintain strict infection control and patient safety protocols.
  • Participate in emergency response training and drills.
  • Keep accurate and timely nursing documentation in compliance with facility policies.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
  • Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Michigan, active and in good standing.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of pre-op, PACU, critical care, emergency room, or perioperative nursing experience, preferably in an ASC or outpatient surgical setting.
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (if applicable).
  • Strong knowledge of patient safety, pain management, emergency protocols, and patient education.
  • Excellent communication, multitasking, and critical-thinking skills as well as a patient-centered approach to care.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract
