ROLE OVERVIEW 

The Sr. Technical Designer coordinates the fit and construction from initial concept through to commercialization and production for assigned styles to lead to on time development and delivery according to critical dates, product specification, and sustainability, performance and profitability goals.

This role requires a high level of communication, attention to detail, technical patternmaking, and problem-solving skills for moderate to difficult fit issues.  A Senior Technical Designer is responsible for building and maintaining the specs and fit of the garment from initial design concept through to final fit approval for an assigned category. 

This role is responsible to ensure fit consistency and Brand standards for construction throughout the given category maintained.

The Sr. Technical Designer keeps abreast of market trends, team goals, new technologies and consumer needs throughout the development process and engages appropriately to ensure projects are completed within corporate guidelines and goals for all facets of product creation.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Collaborates with business partners to obtain clear direction and consensus on design aesthetic, fit intent and construction
  • Builds excellent working relationships with cross functional partners in Design and Product Development as well as overseas offices
  • Creates and issues standard graded specifications and garment construction methods for assigned product categories from initial style development and cost engineer for bulk production
  • Leads fit sessions, owning construction and fit while also offering design and product development options in how to correct shape/silhouettes for customer satisfaction
  • Problem solves all technical issues related to fit and execution including fabric application, construction, grading and cost engineering
  • Effectively communicates fit intent, balance, and construction revisions to Vendors via fit notes, diagrams, ¼ scale pattern corrections, digital photos
  • Evaluates prototype samples and fit samples for measurement, fit and construction accuracy and quality according to Brand standards
  • Participates in maintaining consistency of technical design and product creation processes. 
  • Partners with Product Development and Design to ensure execution of fit, construction and finishing
  • Ensure Brand consistency in aesthetic, fit and construction from vendor to vendor across all styles within a category.
  • Effectively communicates with cross functional teams to ensure calendar milestone deliverables are met
  • Proactively identifies and solves potential production, quality and costing issues and make appropriate recommendations for resolutions
  • Escalates issues when necessary and provide root cause analysis, fact finding and possible solutions
  • Tracks workload deliverables to ensure individual deadlines are met to avoid garment delivery slides
  • Attend key Milestone meetings to provide technical support with regards to fit and construction
  • Fosters open communication and team environment with all business partners and receives constructive feedback professionally
  • Develops and maintains accurate sample garment measurement specifications in the Product Line Management System 
  • Mentors other team members and provides guidance on tasks
  • Participates in special projects and assignments as needed
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time (domestic and international)

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

  • Bachelor's Degree in Technical Design, Fashion Merchandising or Fashion Design related field
  • 5+ years design/development experience in the sport apparel or fashion industry experience required across multiple garment categories
  • Ability to analyze fit issues and propose valid & actionable solutions 
  • Proficient in pattern making, grading, construction methods and garment engineering for assigned categories
  • Strong technical apparel development and analytical skills including a strong understanding of costing.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism in communication, attitude and teamwork with peers and management
  • Highly organized and detail-orientated, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment at a very detailed level.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail and follow-up skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to find creative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Must possess demonstrated proficiency of MAC and all applicable programs including Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office programs 
  • Proficient in PLM System preferred
  • Knowledge of CAD Pattern Design or 3D software

  • Hybrid schedule: three days in office required, two days eligible to work from home.
