The Controller will play a critical role in overseeing and scaling the firm's accounting and financial operations. This role will report directly to the VP of Finance.
Key Responsibilities:
· Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and month-end close.
· Own and manage the monthly close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
· Review and approve client billing, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to contract terms.
· Partner with Project Managers to support the monthly billing review process and resolve billing-related issues.
· Oversee collections efforts and provide guidance on resolving past-due accounts.
· Manage and reconcile transactional, project, and resource management data to support billing and reporting.
· Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, review work for accuracy and completeness.
· Support project-related contract management, including change orders, amendments, and project close-out procedures.
· Prepare and review financial statements, variance analyses, and ad-hoc reporting for leadership.
· Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
· Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, scalability, and internal controls.
· Support audits and collaborate with external partners as needed.
· Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls across both entities.
Requirements:
· Active CPA license (required).
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
· 8-12 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a professional services environment that bills time.
· Prior experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior-level accounting role.
· Strong understanding of the end-to-end billing workflow for time-based services.
· Solid knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting best practices.
· Experience managing or mentoring junior accounting staff.
· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong overall systems aptitude.
· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
· Strong communication skills with the ability to partner cross-functionally.
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth, deadline-driven environment.
