SUMMARY:
Grade and separate Hardwood veneers and Import Core (aka: Lauan) according to ANSI, HPVA, Proprietary, and other applicable grading standards. Identify and report materials that do not meet grade expectations to Hardwood Veneer Purchasing Manager to determine if a Claim is needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Read and interpret HPVA, Proprietary, and other applicable grading standards.
- Report Grading Orders accurately in D365.
- Print tickets for veneer according to grade and quantity.
- Identify tight and loose side of grain on veneer.
- Mark loads of veneer according to grade (follow unit striping outline).
- Able to achieve 1500 pieces when grading Hardwood Veneers and Import Core (aka: Lauan).
- Print load tickets from D365.
- Keep accurate count of veneer while grading (running count and total count).
- Work in tight quarters around forklifts.
- Assist in other areas of department as needed.
- Assist with Inventory counting and problem solving as needed.
- Must support the team in achieving all Safety, Production and Quality goals.
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- 3-6 months of handling hardwood veneer preferred.
- Basic computer skills.
- Grading hardwood veneer or plywood, preferred
- Experience with label making and computers.
- Experience with moving sheets of veneer with speed and care.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read, comprehend and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to learn terms in veneer grading.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Basic math skills; add, subtract, multiply and divide using units of measure and whole numbers.
- Ability to read tape measure and read fractions.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to understand and carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and work to implement solutions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Ability to walk and stand over 2/3 of your shift.
- Ability to use and reach with your hands and arms.
- Ability to climb or balance over 1/3 of your shift.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl over 1/3 of your shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Use of personal protective equipment is always required. (Hearing protection and safety glasses)
- General mill environment. High noise, dust, forklift and pedestrian traffic.
- Frequent outdoors – hot and cold conditions.
- Fast paced environment.
