Key Responsibilities and Duties:

211 LA is seeking a mission-driven, strategic, and collaborative Senior Director of Development to lead the organization's fundraising and donor relations efforts, elevating its visibility, impact, and long-term sustainability. As a key member of the leadership team, the Senior Director will design and implement a comprehensive development and donor engagement strategy that supports 211 LA's programs, innovation initiatives, and community partnerships.

This position is responsible for managing all fundraising activities, including individual giving, institutional grants, corporate partnerships, special campaigns, and donor communications. The Senior Director will develop and execute a donor engagement plan that deepens relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation supporters, and actively engage the business sector as partners in community building.

Key responsibilities include launching and managing an employee giving program with corporate/business matching opportunities, cultivating high-value partnerships with the private sector, and ensuring all development efforts inspire donor loyalty and community investment. The Senior Director will also oversee donor stewardship, impact reporting, and cross-team collaboration to ensure consistent, compelling messaging that drives philanthropic support for 211 LA's mission.

Fundraising Strategy, Development, and Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a multi-year development plan aligned with organizational goals, prioritizing diversified funding streams, including government grants, foundations, major gifts, and corporate sponsorships.
  • Establish and achieve annual fundraising goals in partnership with the Chief Program Officer and Executive Director.
  • Research funding trends, analyze data, and identify emerging opportunities to inform business development and fundraising strategies.
  • Partner with the Chief Program Officer to engage funders, define needs, scope, and objectives, and shape new program concepts.
  • Build, manage, and cultivate a portfolio of individual, institutional, and corporate donors and prospects.
  • Develop compelling case statements, proposals, and donor communications that clearly convey 211 LA's mission, impact, and value to stakeholders.

Donor Relations, Cultivation, and Management:

  • Build and sustain strong donor relationships, with a focus on engaging the business sector, corporate foundations, and community partners.
  • Oversee donor stewardship activities, cultivation events, and targeted campaigns to grow and retain individual, corporate, and institutional supporters.
  • Lead the planning and execution of donor communications, annual appeals, and engagement initiatives that inspire continued investment in 211 LA's mission.
  • Develop and secure strategic partnerships with businesses and corporate foundations, including sponsorships, cause-marketing opportunities, and collaborative community initiatives.

Program Development and Management:

  • Collaborate with internal departments and external funders to design program plans, goals, and performance benchmarks.
  • Oversee project planning and execution, monitoring progress and implementing contingency strategies to ensure objectives are met on time and within scope.

Team Development, Management and Communications

  • Assist with onboarding and training of new staff including program managers.
  • Identify and secure training and resources needed for program managers to succeed.
  • Supervise a small development and/or communications team or consultants as needed.
  • Oversee marketing and storytelling efforts that elevate the organization's profile and attract funders.
  • Ensure consistent, compelling branding and communications across print and digital platforms.
 

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years experience managing projects and/or programs.
  • A Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in a relevant field (Social Work, Public Administration, or other related field).
  • Experience in program management, leading cross-sector collaboration.
  • Thorough knowledge of the information and referral process and social services delivery.
  • Strong problem-solving, research, time management, communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
    • Effective and comprehensive computer skills, including the ability to use or adapt to new computer programs, software, equipment, and/or hardware.
  • Ability to move program goals forward in an uncertain, politically sensitive, and rapidly changing environment while keeping key stakeholders informed and engaged.
  • Ability to remain available for undetermined scheduling to respond to county emergency response in the event of an unforeseen emergency or disaster.
Compensation: $110,000 annually
