Position Overview

The One-to-One Co-Teacher plays a critical role in supporting an individual scholar's academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success within the classroom. This team member works closely with teachers to create an inclusive learning environment aligned with RLA's mission and PIRATE PRIDE values.

This position begins part-time, with the potential to transition to full-time based on school needs, candidate performance, and enrollment.

Key ResponsibilitiesInstructional Support

  • Provide individualized support to an assigned scholar to ensure engagement, task completion, and academic growth.
  • Reinforce learning targets and assist with differentiated or modified assignments as directed by the teacher.
  • Support the use of organizational tools, accommodations, or assistive technology to promote scholar independence.
  • Encourage a growth mindset and promote persistence in line with the "Determined" pillar of PIRATE PRIDE.

Classroom Collaboration

  • Partner consistently with classroom and EC teachers to align instruction and support strategies.
  • Assist with classroom routines, transitions, learning centers, and project-based learning activities.
  • Collaborate as part of the teaching team to uphold a positive, structured learning environment.

Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support

  • Implement behavior intervention plans with fidelity.
  • Model and reinforce respectful communication, empathy, and positive citizenship aligned with PIRATE PRIDE.
  • Encourage self-regulation, conflict resolution, and peer interaction skills.

Documentation & Communication

  • Track and communicate scholar progress, behaviors, and needs to the teaching team.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times and uphold high standards of professionalism.
  • Participate in meetings regarding scholar progress, IEP updates, or instructional planning as needed.

General School Support

  • Assist with school procedures and supervision duties when assigned.
  • Participate in professional development aligned with RLA's commitment to continuous improvement and instructional excellence.

QualificationsRequired:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (some college preferred)
  • Experience working with children in school or youth settings
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills
  • Demonstrated patience, flexibility, and commitment to inclusivity
  • Willingness to receive training and implement individualized student plans

Preferred:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree, or enrollment in an education-related program
  • Experience supporting scholars with exceptional needs
  • Familiarity with MTSS, behavior intervention strategies, or IEP accommodations

Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Part-time schedule: 20–25 hours per week aligned with the school day
  • Opportunity to transition to full-time with benefits
